A FAN?S SOLUTION FOR THE PURSE SPLIT ISSUE

PhilBoxing.com

Los Angeles, CA:- Right after the Pacquiao-de la Hoya encounter at the MGM Grand last December 6th, apparently the Pacquiao camp met with the Hatton crew and had a verbal agreement to stage the Pacquiao-Hatton tiff this year with the understanding that the revenue split will be 50-50.

With that, Arum and Schaefer went to work. They secured a date (May 2nd). And they are close to getting the deal for the venue and TV coverage sealed.

Alas, the Pacquiao people changed their minds!

So what else is new in the fight business?

The Pacquiao people are now demanding that the revenue split be 60-40 indicating that the Filipino spit fire deserves more since he is the pound4pound king and has more fan support than Hatton.

Just as expected the Hatton camp cried foul. In fact, they are even threatening a law suit for violation of the verbal agreement. They want to keep the 50-50 split.

Even Arum and Schaefer are now saying that because of the changes brought forth by the Pacquiao people, the fight may not go through. And , they have no plan B.

According to Arum, the blame is really on Pacquiao. But of course, those behind the scene have a lot of say. Read:- Gacal and Wakee. Who can blame them? They are now on top, thus they deserve more. After all, that is what the fight business is all about!

On the other hand, the Hatton people are indicating that they can generate a lot of revenue via the British PPV and the beer chugging fans that follows him to Vegas. Thus they at least deserve a 50-50 split of the revenue.

With that being said, here is a humble proposal to end the purse split issue. This proposal mind you is not my original idea. It came from a die-hard Pacquiao fan from San Diego named Robert Owen.

Owen?s proposal is so simple and it surprised me why all the bright minds from both the Pacquiao and de la Hoya camps never thought of it.

Owen?s proposal is as follows:- Do a 50-40 split. Who ever wins gets an extra 10%. Thus, if Pacquiao wins, he gets 60% but if Hatton wins, then he gets the extra 10% and the split becomes 50-50.

The Hatton people should have no problem with this proposal. After all they are so cock-sure that Hatton can beat Pacquiao.

The same is true for the Pacquiao people. If they are confident of a victory over Hatton, then their 60% is there for them to collect.

I must add however that in fairness, the cut must include all the revenue from all the different sources- the British, Philippine, US and other world wide PPV, the gate, the merchandize and all other revenue sources. What is fair is fair!

Will both camps accept the above proposals? That we shall see!
