QUILATON WINS PBF JR. FLYWEIGHT TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

A well-conditioned and properly trained veteran Rodel Quilaton hammered out an impressive ten round unanimous decision to grab the Philippine Boxing Federation junior flyweight title from champion Ronald Castrodes in an exciting bout in Compostela, Cebu over the weekend.

All three judges Arnel Pasion, Noel Flores and Edwin Barrientos had Quilaton the winner by an identical 95-92 margin.

With the victory Quilaton showed that he had the skill and only needed to train hard to be able to achieve his goals.

Castrodes who suffered his first defeat after 8 wins with 3 knockouts scored a slightly questionable knockdown in round six when he caught Quilaton on the side of the neck as he was off-balance. But Quilaton fought back and dropped Castrodes in the very next round with a series of solid shots and then decked the champion once again in nthe eighth round to effectively erase the advantage gained by Castrodes in the sixth round and to establish his superiority.

The southpaw who was coming off a unanimous decision loss in his last fight which was for the Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight title against Junreil Casimiro improved his record to 21-9-1 with 6 knockouts.

Castrodes who was out-boxed in the late rounds by Quilaton who connected with quick flurries dropped to 9-1 with 3 knockouts and even though he lost, battled all the way to the final bell.

In another of several action-packed fights on the card staged by well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani with the support of youthful Mayor Ritchie Wagas before a good and enthusiastic crowd, undefeated featherweight Elf Gitgano was surprised by a strong and aggressive Jason Perater and quit at the end of the sixth round in a regular slugfest.

Perater answered every challenge thrown at him by Gitgano with both fighters trading vicious body shots but in the end Perater wore down Gitgano and his corner signaled surrender before the start of round seven.

The fights in Compostela will be telecast over the top-rated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? now seen nationwide over CS/9 on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m. right after Solar Sports ?live? coverage of the NBA Games. ?The Main Event? is sponsored by Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum and Pagcor, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and is also replayed on Viva Prime over Destiny Cable.
