MAYWEATHER SR SAYS ?PRETTY BOY? WANTS TO FIGHT PACQUIAO

PhilBoxing.com

After ridiculing Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao saying he was an ordinary fighter and had no chance of beating Oscar De La Hoya, now Floyd Mayweather Sr says his son who retired as pound-for-pound king wants to fight Pacquiao.

Mayweather Sr was quoted by David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press that he and other family members had received calls from the retired, undefeated Floyd Jr saying he was looking to fight again and to have his father in his corner.

The boxer?s cousin Jannelle Mayweather claimed he called her early Sunday moments after Pacquiao?s stirring 8th round TKO victory over De La Hoya snd said he hopes to fight again and get his father back in his corner and said he?d like to fight Pacquiao.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum did mention the possibility of a Mayweather fight for Pacquiao but appealed to everybody to stop talking about possible opponents and give Pacquiao and the Filipino people time to savor his victory, his birthday on December 17 and the Christmas season and allow Pacquiao ?to forget boxing for some time.?

Arum plans to get together with trainer Freddie Roach and Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler early next year to figure on possible opponents and would then present various options to Pacquiao for him to decide. But indications are that Britain ?s Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton was on top of the hit list since both Pacquiao and Hatton have indicated they would want the fight to happen.

Arum has made it clear however, that he wants to get the best deal for Pacquiao and there are many things that have to be worked out including the possible venue for such a showdown.

Hatton?s father Ricky Hatton told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports some time ago that Pacquiao and Hatton are the two best fighters in the world today and could fight in a phone booth. He predicted the fight would probably happen sometime in May, June or July and if it was held at historic Wembley Stadium there would be 100,000 spectators.

One name that is also being mentioned since he?s been chasing Pacquiao for one last battle is that of Ring Magazine lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez which some American boxing writers are striving to push claiming Pacquiao?s two fights with the Mexican ended in controversial decisions in their view.

However, the WBC founding secretary general Rudy Salud who was one of the few boxing people in the Philippines who picked Pacquiao to beat De La Hoya handily said Pacquiao had dropped Marquez four times so far in two fights and if they ever meet again Pacquiao would demolish Marquez this time around.
