GANOY FIGHT IS ON By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 04 Dec 2008 WBC ?International Promoter of the Year? Branco Milenkovic has heaved a sigh of relief after the re-opening of the Bangkok airport enabled Devid Lookmahanak to catch a flight for South Africa and arrive in time in Johannesburg for his WBC junior bantamweight title eliminator at the Carousel near Pretoria on Friday night, Saturday in Manila. The closure of the airport by anti-government demonstrators placed the fight card which also features Filipino lightweight Ranee ?KO Kid? Ganoy in an eliminator for the top spot in the IBF rankings in jeopardy but when the demonstrators pulled out and flights resumed Milenkovic?s concerns were erased. Ganoy (25-10-2, 21 KO?s) faces a tough task when he battles American Fernando ?La Fiera? Angulo (21-4, 13 KO?s) who is coming off a 3rd round KO of Daniel Souza Santos of Brazil last August 30. Ganoy, on the other hand won his last fight against Thailand ?s Sapapetch Sor Sakaorat by a second round KO on July 19 this year in Cebu. Milenkovic reportedly arranged for a helicopter to ferry Lookmahanak who has a record of 18-2 with 9 knockouts to Hong Kong where he took a connecting flight to South Africa and was met at the airport by a relieved Milenkovic which almost ruined his ambitious promotion. The tough Thai is coming off a controversial split decision loss to Mexican warrior Jorge Arce last May 18 in a WBC title eliminator. He had earlier lost in a stunning second round TKO to Filipino Richard Olisa on August 17, 2007. Lookmahanak?s opponent is undefeated South African Evans Mbamba (15-0, 7 KO?s) who is the reigning WBC International super flyweight/junior bantamweight champion. The referee for the Mbamba ? Lookmahanak main event will be Guadalupe Garcia of Mexico while the judges are John Keane of England , Nicolas Hidalgo of Venezuela and Joseph Chaane of South Africa . The WBC supervisor is Celestino Mindra aof Uganda . For the Ganoy fight the referee will be David Fields of the United States while the judges named for the fight are all South Africans - Alfredo Buqwana, Deon Dwarte and W. Snowball.
