RUBILLAR HOPES TO GIVE THE PHILIPPINES ITS FIFTH WORLD TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 29 Nov 2008 World Boxing Council light flyweight challenger Juanito Rubillar hopes to win against Mexican champion Edgar Sosa in their hugely anticipated showdown on Sunday, Manila Time, at the storied Arena Mexico in one of the world?s hotbeds of boxing, Mexico City. The 31 year old veteran Filipino southpaw believes that with Filipino journalist/judge Rey Danseco approved as one of the judges for the fight, the decision will be a balanced and fair one should it go the distance as many expect it will. WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman picked Mexican Humberto Olivares as the second judge and American Stephen Blea as the third. The referee will be 68 year old Harold Laurens of the Carribean island of Curacao. Rubillar?s handler Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde Jr had also insisted on Danseco being one of the judges in the WBC title eliminator when Rubillar beat former world champion Omar Nino Romero by a split decision with Danseco having the Filipino the winner by two points while American judge Steve Morrow had Rubillar the winner by one point. However, Mexican judge Herminio Cuevas Collazo turned in a patently partisan scorecard of 118-111 in favor of Omar Nino Romero which came under fire. Even president Sulaiman commended Danseco for scoring the bout fairly and said it was a good decision and he agreed with it. Rubillar who has trained diligently for three months knowing that this is unquestionably his fifth and last chance to win a world title is in ?high spirits and feels strong? as he prepares to face Sosa who is in his prime and has successfully defended his title seven times in some eighteen months. Jacques Deschamps who handles Sosa told respected boxing writer and television correspondent James Blears of Boxing Scene, ?Edgar is a fighting champion. We know this will be a tough fight for him, but we?re very optimistic. He?s on a streak and there?s a French saying ?never two without three. Rubillar is a good fighter but Edgar is a thinking boxer and he?s very sharp. Edgar?s technique will prove to be the decisive difference.?
