PINOY SLAYER SADDAM TO BARGE INTO WBC RANKINGS PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Nov 2008 Thailand's undefeated prospect Saddam Kietyongyuth (16-0, 12 KO's) is expected to barge into the WBC's top 15 next month, according to his handlers. Saddam has gained notoriety among Filipino fans following wins over tough Filipino fighters, and recently for openly challenging OPBF lightweight champ Randy Suico to a unification duel. Saddam, pointing out that Suico should stop fighting B or C-level fighters, stated that the Filipino champ needs to step up to the plate for better competition, and not feast on hapless Japanese fighters to pad his resume. Apparently, the WBC has acknowledged Saddam's gallant efforts at defending his WBC-ABCO title, which he has kept since 2006. "Suico is the only guy out there who we know has a chance at beating Saddam. And Saddam also has a chance at beating Suico. So let's make it happen," said Saddam's promoter Daniel Potter recently, still hopeful that Suico's manager Joe Koizumi will take the challenge. In his most recent fight, Saddam easily dismantled one-time world title challenger Jimrex Jaca via second-round knockout in Thailand on October 22. After clinching the WBC-ABCO title on April 13, 2006 over Richard Sandikal, Saddam had successfully defended it four times against Arniel Tinampay, Monte Carlos, JR Sollano and Jaca. He also prevailed in two non-title bouts over Jury Noda and Alexander Bajawa in between defending his regional strap. The undefeated Thai fighter Saddam hopes to one day become Thailand's version of Manny Pacquiao, and hopes to challenge the best fighters in Asia before moving onto the world boxing scene. |
