SOUTH AFRICANS DOMINATE MEXICAN FIGHTERS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 25 Nov 2008 Three talented South African boxers have dominated their Mexican opponents in a fight card at the Mdantsane Indoor Center near East London in South Africa , Sunday, Manila Time. Well-known boxing writer Ron Jackson reported that IBO mini flyweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi scored a smashing second round knockout over Mexican contender Lorenzo Trejo. The undefeated southpaw Joyi took his winning streak to 19-0 with 14 knockouts in a title defense where he outclassed Trejo, the 31 year old Mexican who fell to 30-17-1 with 17 knockouts. Trejo is the same fighter who lost by a 4th round TKO to Filipino Rodel Mayol in a WBC title eliminator on January 28, 2006 in Cancun, Mexico in the hugely successful WBC ?Night of Champions.? Jackson reported that Joyi was in command from the opening bell until he landed a left to the solar plexus that left Trejo flat on his face to be counted out at 48 seconds into the second round by referee Phil Austin. Also putting on an excellent performance in the first defense of his World Boxing Foundation featherweight title was undefeated Ludumo Galada (16-0, 8 KO?s) . Galada completely out-boxed 27 year old Pedro Navarette (23-5, 12 KO?s) before putting him way at 2:08 also in the second round. Jackson said the Mexican was dropped by a left-right combination to the head in the second round but just managed to beat the count before being sent to the canvas once again by another Galada combination. When Navarette went down for the third time referee Darryl Ribbink called a halt. The third South African to win was unheralded Lubabalo Msutu (12-2, 11 KO?s) who scored a stunning upset when he knocked out Jose Cabrera (13-2-1, 6 KO?s) in the 7th round to capture the vacant WBF bantamweight title. The South African dominated Cabrera with a two-fisted attack and dropped him for the full count with a left hook to the jaw.
