RUBILLAR DETERMINED TO WIN IN FIFTH SHOT AT WORLD TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 15 Nov 2008 Veteran Juanito Rubillar is determined to win the WBC light flyweight title in his fifth attempt when he battles Mexico?s busy champion Edgar Sosa on November 29 in Mexico City. Rubillar?s manager Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that they were leaving Saturday for Los Angeles where they would spend a couple of days before flying to Mexico. The southpaw Rubillar (46-10-7, 22 KO?s) has expressed confidence that this time around he will make no mistake in the title fight dubbed ?Battle In The Capital? which will be held at the famed Arena Mexico in champion Sosa?s hometown of Mexico City. Rubillar said winning the title ?after trying so many times is going to make it all the sweeter? but he realizes that Sosa who has a record of 33-5 with 17 knockouts and is making the seventh defense of the vacant title he won in a fight against another Filipino-Hawaii-based Filipino Brian Viloria - withk a majority on April 14, 2007 won?t be easy. Respected boxing writer and TV reporter James Blears who lives in Mexico noted that Rubillar earned the title shot by ?out-muscling and out-hustling a ring rusty Omar Nino Romero? scoring a split decision victory on the same June 14 card as Sosa who got up from a hard knockdown in the ninth round to post a convincing points win. Blears conceded that while Rubillar?s performance ?didn?t look stylish or elegant, it was very effective.? The boxing writer told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports that while Sosa is ?not known for his powerful punching, he is precise, accurate and possesses a first class boxing brain.? Blears also reported that the champion ?is always in top fighting shape because he?s in the ring so often.? The title defense against Rubillar will be Sosa?s fourth this year having successfully defended his title against Jesus Iribe with a twelve round unanimous decision on February 9; an 8th round TKO over Japan?s Takashi Kunishige on June 14 and a twelve round unanimous decision over Sonny Boy Jaro last September 27. Blears said that while the 31 year old Filipino southpaw is a ?hungry and tough fighter, needs to move up a couple of gears in this fight to reach overdrive.? On the other hand he said Sosa is a ?master of counter-punching so Rubillar must go looking for him.? In one final note Blears told us ?supreme condition is going to be a key factor in this fight and it will be interesting to see who has the greater intensity and the will to win.?
