ALCOS WINS ABC INTERNATIONAL LIGHT FLYWEIGHT TITLE IN CHINA
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 12 Nov 2008
Julius Alcos won the Asian Boxing Council International light flyweight title at the Sycuan Gymnasium in Chengdu, China with an impressive twelve round unanimous decision over China?s undefeated Xiong Zhao Zhong.
All three Thai judges scored the fight for Alcos ? 116-114/117-110 and 118-115. The referee was internationally respected official Bruce McTavish of New Zealand who has made his home in Angeles City for some 40 years.
With the win Alcos, nicknamed the ?Makoto Kid? improved to 14-6 with 3 knockouts while Zhong who suffered his first defeat dropped to 11-1-1 with 8 knockouts.
McTavish said it was an excellent fight and he didn?t have to step in to break the fighters up even once because there was no holding or clinching at all.
Alcos was coming off a ten round unanimous decision loss to Edren Dapudong in North Cotabato last September 27.
The only sour note was the fact that there was no ABCO belt to be presented to the champion after the fight.
