ABA's KEN SMITH CITES PINOL AND BRAVEHEART PhilBoxing.com Tue, 28 Oct 2008 EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is a letter sent to Philboxing.com by American Boxing Academy's Ken Smith, who founded the fast-improving Digos City-based stable. "I see my friend Manny Pinol has gotten on board with Philboxing.com. That was certainly a wise move for him and his boxers in Cotobato and the ones Mr Pinol has succeeded in getting to the USA already. Philboxing.com and Pacland have become one of the most visited boxing websites in not only Asia but around the entire world especially the USA. Philboxing founder Dong Secuya (I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr Secuya, and he is impressive) has compiled a really informative broad based site that really works (I also have advertised ABA on Philboxing to our great pleasure) So it came as no surprise to me to see Vice Gov. Pinol's Braveheart Boxing now listed on Philboxing.com with its own very impressive website www.thepinoyboxers.com. I really respect the Vice Gov. and his love for boxing. I have competed with his boxers both Pro and Amateur and I can tell you they are serious fighters. The Amateur boxers at ABA of Digos City and the Amateur boxers of Manny Pinol's N Cotobato have forged a camaraderie over the last year starting with competitions we both attended all year around Mindanao. They came to our Digos City to fight, and we came to Cotabato along the way cultivating our friendship with and mutual support of each other's teams, ultimately leading to our cheering each other at the National Philippine Boxing Championships held in Iloilo City. I have recently been in contact with the Cotobato icon regarding my American Boxing Academy of Digos City. Mr Pinol has offered fights on his past Braveheart Promotions to ABA fighters [Ramie Laput, Bert Udtuhan, Cerilio "bodysnatcher" Espino and Jan Jan Claveria have all fought on Pinol's Braveheart Promotions). I expressed my thanks to him for his support of all my Filipino fighters. I also expressed to the honorable Vice Gov. Pinol my hope that the public will see our two teams best professional boxers competing against each other soon, as I beleive that if ABA fighters can beat Braveheart fighters they have beat some of the best in the Philippines. Mr Pinol welcomed the challenge in the name of sportsmanship and competition. This should make for some great fights in Mindanao. Footnote: Vice Governor Pinol has expressed his hope that his busy goverment schedule will allow him time to attend the upcoming American Boxing Academy promotion this Oct 31st in Digos City.. The card featuring ABA star fighter and current WBO Asia Pacific Champion Ramie Laput along with American based Charles Whitaker a world rated #7 jr middleweight whom ABA head trainer Norman Wilson is positioning for a hopeful 2009 world title fight.. ABA fighters Bert Udtuhan, Joebert "sugar" Delos Reyes, and Jan Jan Claveria will all try to keep their unbeaten recods intact. Also on the card are 2 up and coming fighters from Mayor JoJo Lopez stable of Maassim. JB Nacionales and Alvin Bais.. Mayor Lopez is the manager of WBO Oriental Flyweight Champ Richie Mepranum. Mepranum is also among the new crop of Filipino world contenders. |
