PhilBoxing.com

The American Boxing Academy Promotions of Digos City Philippines is promoting a fight card October 31st in Digos City with an International flavor.

American based Cayman fighter Charles "Killa" Whitaker, the WBO #7 World rated Jr middleweight is fighting Filipino journeyman Jury NOda of Manila over 10 rounds. This fight is part of an effort by ABA owner Ken Smith to bring American fighters and other foreign fighters to ABA's regular fight promotions on the Island of Mindanao in the Philippines.

Whitaker a hard punching jr middleweight with a 39-10 record, will use this opportunity to fight in the Philippines as a test for a proposed Dec fight in the Philippines against an opponent from Australia or South Korea possibly for a WBO regional title. In addition to the world rated Whitaker's fight, ABA star fighter Ramie Laput who is the newly crowned WBO Asia Pacific Jr Featherweight Champion and currently rated WBO World rated #15 also appears in a 10 round co-main event against tough veteran Phil Angcamor.

Laput, the former RP superflyweight champion [he never lost this title in the ring] has been on a rampage since returning to the ring just over 1 year ago at Jr Featherweight or 122lbs. division. The native of Compostella Valley has won 7 straight fights since signing with American Boxing Academy manager Ken Smith. The world rated Filipino boasts a very impressive 33-3 win-loss record with 18kos. The Oct 31st fight with Angcamor will be Laput's 2nd fight in less than 30days. In his last appearance just Oct 4th in Naga City, Cebu Laput TKOd his opponent from Thailand in the 3rd round winning the prestigous WBO AsiaPac belt.

The double main event is ABA's biggest effort since setting up operations in Digos City in 2007. The ABA team has developed into a formidable challenge to fighters already in the Philippines. The collective record of ABA managed Filipino fighters as recorded by Boxrec.com is an impressive 79 wins 6 losses. American trainer "Storman" Norman Wilson who joined ABA in Digos City just months after Smith built the gym has steadily improved his pupils since taking over as head trainer.

"I have worked with so many Champions--Tyson,Tony Tucker, Nate Campbell, man I am telling you I been through a lot. Laput gonna get there. He tries to take your head off ".

Wilson will be in both Whitaker and Laput's corner come Oct 31st in Digos. The fight card will also feature the fighters of Mayor JoJo Lopez stable of Maasim. JB Nacionales will fight 8 rounds against a tough opponent from the stable of Bernard Yu of Butuan. Mayor Lopez will also see his hope in Alvin Bais fight 6 rounds. Some other fighters of interest will be ABAs Bert Udtuhan who is undefeated in 4 fights with 4 kos.. Udtuhan takes on a veteran fighter in Jerry Manganip over 6 rounds. Udtuhans manager and ABA chief Ken Smith said: "Bert is already fighting in only his 5th pro fight a guy with a lot of experience who has fought a lot of the best Filipino fighters, I think his opponent has fought 10 rounds at least five times already, and he has never been KOd".

Also in 6 rounders are ABA hopefuls Cerilo "The Bodysnatcher" Espino a 126 pounder and JanJan Claveria a Jr flyweight.. Espino is 6-2 with 6 kos, while Claveria is still unbeaten in 5 fights.

Also appearing is ABA youngster 18 yr old Joebert "Sugar" Delos Reyes at 126lbs.. Sugar Delos Reyes the 2008 National Amateur Bronze medal winner impressed Smith and Trainer Wilson winning his first pro fight last month in Cagayan De Oro. Smith said "Joebert is one of the hardest punchers in our gym, he will be very good when Norman gets done with him".

Come see for yourself Oct 31st in Digos Citys Pearl Center!!.
