WHITTAKER, LAPUT CO-HEADLINE DIGOS CARD!
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 24 Oct 2008
WBO no. 7 junior middleweight Charles Whittaker of the Cayman Islands and WBO no. 15 superbantamweight Ramie Laput of the ABA Boxing Gym will co-headline an exciting card on October 31 in Digos City.
ABA owner Ken Smith and promoter Fred Salazar are putting up this event to showcase some of the promising fighters at the ABA gym, said matchmaker Glenn Salazar.
The American Boxing Academy Promotions of Digos City is an upstart American owned, Philippine-based promotional company which has already promoted almost a dozen fight cards around Mindanao and one in Cebu only in its first year.
Whittaker will take on Filipino Jury Noda in a 10-round non-title face-off for the Oct. 31 event expected to test the capacity of the visiting fighter who has been training at the ABA Gym for several weeks now.
If victorious, Whittaker hopes to vie for a WBO regional title in the 154-lb class, says Ken Smith, who also divulged that the Cayman fighter will get instructions from renowned trainer Norman 'Storman' Wilson.
Laput, coming off an impressive victory recently for the WBO Asia Pacific superbantam interim title, is expected to have his hands full against veteran Phil Angcamor of Cagayan De Oro City.
If victorious, Laput aims to defend his title sometime December in the Philippines in preparation to a possible stint in the United States, added Smith.
The rest of the card pits Bimbo Nacionales versus War Bartiquil; Marlon Alta against Noli Fabroa; Janjan Claveria versus Nino Tubigon; Bert Udtuhan against Jerry Manganip; Cerillo Espino versus Romnick Rapista; Alvin Bais against Arwin Ada.
Joebert De los Reyes takes on Godwin Tubigon; Christian Rufa versus Alex Tubigon; and John Paul Colon versus Gerald Tuyor.
