?De La Hoya?s power decreases if he fights in his weight? By Danyeva Grace C. Donato PhilBoxing.com Sun, 19 Oct 2008 ILOILO CITY -- A well-known lawyer here who had predicated that Manny Pacquiao would knock out WBC lightweight champion David Diaz ?before 10 rounds? on June 28, has again made a bold prediction that Pacquiao would defeat Oscar De La Hoya on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada. ?It has been proven that De La Hoya?s power decreases if he fights in his natural weight,? explained Manuel Justiniani, a former provincial legal chief and sports analyst. ?And welterweight is his natural weight.? Justiniani cited De La Hoya?s fight against Floyd Maywaether on May 5, 2007 where the Golden Boy lost by split decision in the battle for WBC light middleweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It was De La Hoya?s second fight in the light middleweight division since losing to Bernard Hopkins by 9th round knockout on September 18, 2004 at the MGM Grand for WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO middleweight championship. ?In his fight against Mayweather,? recalled Justiniani, ?De La Hoya had no power and so Mayweather outpunched him.? He said De La Hoya ?should have dominated Mayweather because Mayweather was fighting in his division.? The lawyer said Pacquiao will dominate De La Hoya in the later rounds ?because he has the speed and his coaching team will focus on De La Hoya?s body.? He said De La Hoya, who had to shed weight from middleweight to welterweight, ?can not hurt Pacquiao because he will lose a lot of power by reducing his weight.? ?Mark my word,? Justiniani vowed. ?Pacquiao will beat De La Hoya and many people will be shocked.? De La Hoya had been beaten by Felix Trinidad for WBC and IBF welterweight titles nine years ago. He also lost to Shane Mosley by split decision in another WBC and IBA welterweight rumbles eight years ago. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Danyeva Grace C. Donato. |
