PACQUIAO WORKS OUT FOR OVER TWO HOURS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Oct 2008 With the last stop on a highly successful six-city promotional tour winding down in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Manila time, Filipino ring idol and national treasure Manny Pacquiao has begun the far more important task of preparing for his ?Dream Match? against ?The Golden Boy? Oscar De La Hoya at the MGM Grand on December 6. Pacquiao?s lawyer Franklin ?Jeng? Gacal told www.insidesports.ph, Manila Standard and Viva Sports in an overseas telephone conversation that after an interview conducted by HBO for their four-part pre-fight ?Countdown? series, Pacquiao worked out at the Wild Card Gym of celebrated trainer Freddie Roach. Gacal who was at the Wild Card when Pacquiao trained said he worked on the punch-mitts with Roach and went through his usual rigorous routine. Gacal said Pacquiao was ?fast and looked strong? and was ?feeling very good.? Pacquiao has brushed aside concerns that De La Hoya was much bigger than him, saying he isn't that much bigger and he simply "can't wait to prove my critics wrong." After the final promotional stop is done with, Pacquiao will step-up his daily training regimen under the keen eye of Roach and away from the prying eyes of onlookers and fight fans. Meantime, Olympic gold medalist and ten-time world champion De La Hoya adds a personal touch to the final tour stop which will take place in the East Los Angeles neighborhood where De La Hoya grew up. "The Golden Boy" will play host to the fighter that Larry Merchant once referred to as a typhoon roaring across the Pacific and is regarded as the all-time greatest fighter from the Philippines and Asia. Some measure of the interest and excitement in the fight can be gauged by the fact that tickets sold out within hours making the Pacquiao-De La Hoya ?Dream Match? the second largest gate in boxing history, second only to the De La Hoya ? Floyd Mayweather Jr showdown ?The World Awaits.? The venue for the event will be the Whittier Boulevard Arch at the corner of Whittier Boulevard and Arizona Avenue.
