GORRES DEEP IN TRAINING FOR INTERIM TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 29 Sep 2008  Z ?The Dream? Gorres is taking no chances and is deep into training for his scheduled WBO super flyweight Interim title fight on the Ricky ?Hitman? Hatton ? Paul Malignaggi IBO light welterweight title fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 22. Young Michael Aldeguer who has assumed the mantle of boxing at the famed ALA Gym from his respected father and boxing patron Tony Aldeguer said Gorres has been training for almost one month and is determined not to let this chance slip away when he battles tough Jose Lopez of Puerto Rico. However, he was forced to skip training for two days last week because of a sore throat but he's back in the gym and Tony Aldeguer said everything is fine. So far, so good." The Aldeguers decided to skip the IBF title eliminator offered to Gorres by making it clear he had already fought Vic Darchinyan in a title eliminator which ended in a draw after which Darchinyan was given a title shot in which he defeated Dimitri Kirilov. The Aldeguers felt, like many other Filipino boxing writers and fight fans that to have Gorres fight another eliminator would be unfair. As a result they decided to accept the offer to fight Lopez for the WBO Interim title where Fernando Montiel, who scored a controversial split decision over the stylish Filipino southpaw in February last year, reigns as champion but reportedly plans to move up in weight which will give Gorres a chance to become champion. Gorres (28-2-2, 15 KO?s) is coming off a ten round unanimous decision against Nick Otieno last May 31 while Lopez last August 8 hammered veteran journeyman Oscar Andrade into submission, forcing him to retire at the end of the seventh round after dropping him once in the 6th and twice in the 7th. Prior to that Lopez, who is 36 years old, won the WBO Latino title with a stunning 4th round TKO over Juan Mercedes after picking himself off the canvas to demonstrate his toughness and his punching power. Gorres who is ten years younger than Lopez realizes that this fight on a big Las Vegas card may well be the most crucial fight of his career and he is in a must-win situation if his dream of becoming a world champion is to be realized.
