MOSLEY WINS BY KO WITH ONE SECOND TO GO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 28 Sep 2008 Sugar Shane Mosley took his sweet time before unleashing a cracking left hook to floor rough and rugged Ricardo Mayorga for the full count with one second remaining in the twelfth and Final round of a battle of welterweights at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Round six was a huge round for the 37 year old Mosley who was fighting before a hometown crowd for the first time since his split decision victory over Oscar De La Hoya at the Staples Center in June 2000 and his fans gave him a warm reception often chanting his name during the fight. Mosley nailed Mayorga with some solid shots but from then on the bout turned into more of an ugly brawl. Comfortably ahead going into round eleven Mosley decided to finish with a flurry. Midway in the round Mosley let his hands go and with a cracking three-punch combination dropped Mayorga after hurting him a few seconds earlier with another big shot. Mayorga beat the count but was clearly groggy. Mosley, sensing he had the Nicaraguan waded in and nailed him with a crushing left hook and Mayorga went down with the official decision a KO at 2:59 of the twelfth round. Mosley improved to 45-5 with 38 knockouts while Mayorga dropped to 28?7-1 with 22 knockouts. In the main supporting bout Steve Forbes maintained his unblemished record if never being downed in a fight by lasting twelve competitive rounds in a WBC welterweight battle against hard-hitting and quick-handed champion Andre Berto. Forbes had his moments but they were few and far between and Berto dominated to come through with a unanimous twelve round decision. Two judges scored it for the champion 118-109 while a third had it much closer at 116-111. Berto improved to 23-0 with 19 knockouts while Forbes dropped to 33-7 with 9 knockouts.
