By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Sep 2008
Three Filipino boxers fighting out of Sydney , Australia have won their bouts in Ingleburn, New South Wales with Danilo Lerio headlining the fight card and winning the vacant Australian flyweight title while Roberto Lerio and Ernie Gonzales Jr also won their bouts.
Lerio (15-2-1, 4 KO?s) won by an 11th round TKO over Thailand ?s knockout artist Nuapayak Sakkriprin (7-3-1, 7 KO?s). Nuapayak was the same fighter who lost by a 4th round TKO to WBO minimum weight champion Milan Melindo of the famed ALA Gym in Cebu.
The 27 year old Lerio was coming off a first round knockout of Matt Meredith last May 23.
Featherweight Gonzales Jr who is ranked No.2 by the Australian National Boxing Federation scored a second round TKO in a rematch with 25 year old Jerry Spanidis in a rematch after he beat Spanidis by a unanimous decision over six rounds last June 20.
Prior to that Gonzales scored an 8th round knockout victory over Ben Warburton and has improved his record to 4-2-1 with 3 knockouts.
The third Filipino fighter to win was No. 2 rated super bantamweight Roberto Lerio. The 22 year old Lerio won by a fourth round technical decision over Kartu Arang of Papua New Guinea who was ranked No. 3 bantamweight but according to boxrec.com had a record of 0-9-3.
The 32 year old Arang reportedly suffered a nasty cut due to an accidental headbutt forcing the referee Brian McMahon to stop the fight at 2:35 of round four. Lerio was ahead by a 30-27 shutout on the scorecards of all three judges.
Lerio was coming off a first round TKO over Jeff Clulow last July 11 while Arang dropped an eight round unanimous decision in his last fight against Dean Livanos on August 8.
