KATSIDIS IN FIGHT OF HIS LIFE AGAINST DIAZ
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Sep 2008
Michael Katsidis, the Aussie fighter who has been regarded as the new Arturo Gatti because the only thing he knows to do is to go forward says his fight against former world champion Juan ?Baby Bull? Diaz is the fight of his life.
Katsidis has said more than once that with the king of slam-bang action both he and Diaz are known for the fight has ?the potential for someone to get seriously hurt.? In fact, Katsidis did get badly cut-up and bled profusely in an epic war with Filipino southpaw Czar Amonsot in a fight where both men wound up in a Las Vegas hospital next to each other.
Unfortunately for Amonsot, doctors detected a speck of blood in his brain and that effectively ended a promising career.
Katsidis realizes that the fight is being staged in Diaz? hometown of Houston, Texas but it doesn?t bother him at all even though the expected crowd of around ten thousand at the Toyota Center will certainly be rooting for the hometown boy.
The eagerly anticipated fight card will be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN beginning at 10:00 a.m. over the pre-eminent Channel 2 with a replay at 10:30 p.m.
In stressing that this is the fight of his life Katsidis put a twist to it by telling boxing writer Steve Kim ?if it wasn?t that way, then I don?t think I?d really want to be in it because I do it for the thrill of it.?
One interesting sidelight is that both fighters are coming off their first loss ? Diaz to Nate Campbell and Katsidis to Joel Casamayor and they both have a burning desire to win and get back in line for a rematch against the men who beat them.
