SGG Sports is proud to present the aptly titled boxing event ? DAYTIME BOXING: PHILIPPINES vs. THAILAND which will feature the newly-crowned WBO ORIENTAL BANTMWEIGHT CHAMPION, MICHAEL DOMINGO ( 36 W (15 Kos) - 14 L ( 5 Kos) ? 2 D ) a mainstay of ALA GYM. Domingo the oriental title last July 26th at the Cebu Coliseum with a smashing 2nd round KO against Indonesia?s Rivo Rengkung. Domingo will slug it out with a seasoned boxer, RATANACHAI SOR VORAPIN ( 73 W ( 49 Kos) 10 L ? ( 3 Kos) of Thailand. Vorapin is the same boxer who was defeated by Gerry Penalosa last April 6 in Manila during the INVASION boxing event. Vorapin captured the WBO Bantamweight Title against Cruz Carbajal of Mexico in 2004 and successfully defended it once against Mauricio Martinez of Panama in 2005. He lost however the title to Johnny Gonzales of Mexico during the Mexico vs. Thailand World Cup on October 29, 2005 at the Desert Diamond Casino in Tuczon, Arizona. This promises to be a good match. Domingo has been on a winning streak since joining the ALA gym and is training very hard and at present very sharp. This fight could even be considered by Domingo a chance to avenge the losses he had in the hands of the Thailanders. His first attempt for the championship bid was for the WBO Asia-Pacific Super Bantamweight crown wherein he lost via an 8th round KO against Sod Looknongyangtoy in October 2001. Two months later, he again lost by a 3rd round KO against another Thai Somsak Sithchatchawal for the pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) SUPERBANTAMWEIGHT Interim title. (By the way, Somsak is now known as Somsak Kokietgym, will be featured as the main undercard against Joel de la Cruz.) In 2004, Domingo again faced another defeat as he lost in his bid for the IBF Pan Pacific Bantanweight title to another Thai Theerapong Distar by Unanimous Decision (UD). Inspite of the string of losses, Domingo persevered in his chosen career. He is determined and optimistic that someday, the elusive Champion belt will be his. And what a way to achieve it. He has ruled and remained undefeated in the Philippine Bantamweight division. He has defended his belt five times already. Domingo made his mark in the boxing world, notably in the US of A when he prevailed over the erstwhile undefeated prodigy of Golden Boy Promotions Mexican prospect, Miguel Roman, during the Philippines vs Mexico World Cup in Sacramento, California on August 11, 2007.
