ALA NOT INTERESTED IN PURSE BID FOR GORRES-POSUWAN ELIMINATOR
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 02 Sep 2008
The respected ALA Gym handlers of IBF No. 3 super flyweight
Z ?The Dream? Gorres are ?not interested? in entering a purse bid for another title eliminator for Gorres, this time against Thailand?s No. 6 ranked Pramunsak ?Machine Gun? Posuwan.
The IBF informed Golden Boy Promotions which promotes Gorres about the purse bid for the title eliminator. As we pointed out before this effectively forces Gorres to fight his second title eliminator having earlier figured in a controversial draw with Vic Darchinyan who was given a shot at then champion Dimitri Kirilov and won the title.
ALA Gym patron Tony Aldeguer told www.insidesports.ph this morning that now Darchinyan is talking about a unification bout against Cristian Mijares which would mean another long wait for Gorres.
Aldeguer said he has informed Golden Boy Promotions vice president Eric Gomez that there is ?no way? they will enter a purse bid and indicated the IBF has been ?unfair? to Gorres and they feel bad about the way he has been treated.
Instead of giving Gorres who didn?t lose to Darchinyan a title shot the IBF wants him to fight Posuwan the 39 year old Thai who dropped a fairly close unanimous twelve round decision to WBO champion Fernando Montiel on October 29, 2005. Posuwan has a record of 43-1-1 with 23 knockouts while the stylish southpaw Gorres has a record of 28-2-2 with 15 knockouts.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had earlier indicated he had planned to feature the stylish Gorres in a far more rewarding rematch with WBO champion Fernando Montiel in Macau this December.
Besides, the IBF has made it clear that even if Gorres wins the eliminatior he will have to wait nine months before getting a mandatory shot at Darchinyan which is not even certrain if his unification title fight against Mijares takes place.
