PANONCILLO RESOLVES WBO ORIENTAL BELT DILEMMA PhilBoxing.com Fri, 29 Aug 2008 CEBU CITY--WBO Asia Pacific chairman Leon Panoncillo has resolved the conflict involving Filipino trainer Juanito Ablaca and Indonesian promoter Temuzin Rambing regarding the WBO Oriental belt that Ablaca claimed was taken from them at their hotel room. Panoncillo and Ablaca held a meeting yesterday at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, where the WBO executive was briefed of what transpired during the bout involving Filipino Jonathan Ba-at and Indonesia's Richard Samosir. Ba-at had won the WBO Oriental interim bantam title via sixth-round knockout over Samosir on Saturday in Jakarta, Indonesia. "Me and Baat were very happy after the win, especially because for the first time in our lives, we saw a very, very beautiful belt," said Ablaca, who noted that he has been in the corner of several regional and world champions, and this was the first time that he saw a stunningly handsome belt. "We enjoyed the moment in our room, the two of us took turns taking photos together with the belt, but at 3AM, the promoter knocked on the door and took the belt away from us," added Ablaca. Panoncillo, however, had talked to promoter Rambing, and the latter explained that since he still had three more options on Baat's belt, he made a prior request on Ablaca that the belt would remain in Indonesia. Fight supervisor Tony Comia had also confirmed that Rambing owns three options on that belt. Ablaca, however, insisted that since his boxer had won the fight, the belt should go with them to the Philippines. "My boxer may not own another belt in his lifetime. Now, we have this very beautiful belt by winning the fight legitimately, and we cannot bring the belt?" asked Ablaca. As a compromise move, Rambing has agreed to send the belt to Ablaca soon. Ablaca, who also trains OPBF champ Randy Suico and former WBA king Joma Gamboa, went out of the meeting with Panoncillo very happy and satisfied with the outcome. |
