UN SEC-GEN, WBC PRESIDENT CONGRATULATE CHINA
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 26 Aug 2008
 UN Sec. General Ban Ki-moon.
All the perceived human rights and other alleged violations by China have been buried under an avalanche of congratulations for a spectacular hosting of the Beijing Olympic Games.
The latest to add their voices to the applause China has received are UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman.
The UN secretary general applauded China's hosting of the Olympics, saying Beijing should be proud of its efforts.
"The Secretary-General congratulates the government and people of China on their unprecedented effort and success in hosting the historic Olympic Games in Beijing," said a statement issued by Ban's office.
"China can be proud of hosting a spectacular Olympiad, which brought together athletes and people from all over the world in celebration of the Olympic spirit, cooperation and goodwill."
The 2008 Games "provided an important opportunity for the promotion of international peace and harmony through deepened dialogue and mutual understanding within the international community," the statement said.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman noted that the 46th convention of the WBC will be held in Chengdu, China this November and he took the opportunity to congratulate the Beijing Olympic Games hosts for the medals that its boxers won.
Sulaiman said the Chinese boxers had won two gold medals and one silver and in addition to getting the victory " they showed exceptional quality at all times."
