CONCEPCION DETROYS CARRERA IN 3 ROUNDS By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Jul 2008 LAS VEGAS, Nevada ? A precision assault capped by a thunderous left uppercut to the left ear unleashed by North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion Bernabe ?Kamaong Llave? Concepcion brought down Adam Carrera 2:14 gone in the third round of their 10-round non-title tiff at the MGM Grand Arena here. Concepcion (26-1, 15 KOs) connected the haymaker seconds after Carrera (19-4, 8 KOs) recovered from a flash knockdown in the same round. As referee Joe Cortez administered the mandatory 8 count, Carrera looked pale and was a picture of disbelief. When the fight resumed, Concepcion assaulted the gritty Mexican customer with a barrage of left and right sending for good Carrera in the canvas. The partisan crowd, which loudly cheered for Carrera as he entered the ring, became silent when Cortez declared the 24-year-old Carrera unfit to continue. Early in second round, trainer Freddie Roach egged the 20-year-old speedster from Virac, Catanduanes to peeper Carrera with uppercuts after the Mexican showed some durability in the first round when Concepcion bombarded him with body blows. ?Makukuha na yan huwag lang mag gigil (He is ready to go down just take it easy),? manager Aljoe Jaro, who served as cutman, told Concepcion before Carrera?s final visit in the canvas. With the way he annihilated Carrera, Jaro said ?hinog na talaga sia for world championship (I think he is ready for the world title).? Concepcion connected 42 of the total of 105 punches as against Carrera?s 19 of the total 136 punches. He connected 14 of the 58 jabs he unleashed while Carrera connected only four of his 67 jabs. The Filipino, dubbed by Top Rank chief executive officer Bob Arum as ?the next Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines?, registered 28 of the 47 power punches he thrown. Concepcion was leading in the scorecards of the three judges?Eric Cheek, Glenn Trowbridge, and Duane Ford?who all logged 20-18 apiece. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Alex P.
