CONCEPCION TORTURES SELF IN GRIFFITH PARK

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, California -- Even without the presence of World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao, North American Boxing Federation (NABF) super bantamweight champion Bernabe ?The Real Deal? Concepcion continued to punish himself in negotiating the stamina-sapping Griffith Park in his regular run starting from La Brea, here.

?Noong kasama kami ni kuya Manny, tumatakbo kami hangang five to six miles a day papuntang Griffith Park,? Concepcion confessed. ?Ngayon, kahit wala na siya, tumatakbo pa rin kami ni Vernie Torres.?

Aside from Pacquiao, some of those who run in the Griffith Park in preparation for their big important fights were Oscar de la Hoya and former world champion Fernando Vargas. ?The park is hilly and its steep is high, so when somebody runs there he is inflicting a torture to himself because even the best marathoners in California are afraid to run in that direction,? revealed L.A. Marathon veteran John Casa.

Concepcion admitted that aside from his reflexes, he was also instructed by his trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning expert Alex Ariza to pump up more oxygen in his adrenalin by running every morning.

He said despite his reputation as knockout artist, he is always ready if the fight goes the distance like when he defended his title against Juan Ruiz on February 9, this year at the Domo De La Feria, Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico which ended in unanimous decision in his favor after 12 rounds.

Concepcion (24-1, 14 KOs) will tackle Adam Carrera (19-3, 8 KOs) in a 10-round non-title showdown in the main undercard of the Miguel Cotto versus Antonio Margarito 12-round world welterweight championship bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America.

It is the second-largest city park in California, after Mission Trails Preserve in San Diego. It has also been referred to as the Central Park of Los Angeles.
