CANCER-STRICKEN PACQUIAO FAN SHOWS VAST IMPROVEMENT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Jul 2008
The 78 year old cancer-stricken Filipino Placido Dosdos who fulfilled his cherished dream of meeting his idol Manny Pacquiao during the Chicago pep rally held to promote the "Lethal Combination" showdown between Pacquiao and then WBC lightweight champion David Diaz says he is recovering fast since he met Pacquiao who embraced him and had photos taken.
The daughter of Dosdos informed Viva Sports special correspondent Romy Sajer of the Philippine Weekly who lives in Chicago and helped arrange the meeting with Pacquiao, "I have noticed a vast improvement in my Dad'as mental and physicial health since the pep rally."
Gigi Dosdos Jardine reported that her father was "more alert, walks more and doesn't use a cane anymore and is now doing a lot of ballroom dancing" at the Chicago Department of Aging. She stressed that although living in the US they were "very proud of our Filipino heritage."
Placido Dosdos himself said that he was "so excited watching the fight with my daughter but she had to go to work and I was left alone. I am very happy and proud of my idol who showed the world we are experts in boxing."
He said "before the fight I prayed for his victory because you know prayer is the most powerful weapon."
Dosdos said that when Pacquiao knocked out Diaz "I shouted as if I had no illness."
The former Customs official who migrated to the US years ago disclosed that since he met Pacquiao at the Federal Plaza pep rally "my health is fast improving everyday." Dosdos said that when he went to the Stroger Hospital for a check-up of the progress of his chemotherapy and his lungs, heart, blood pressure and urine were checked "everything was alright."
He attributed this to "the contributory factor of my idol Pacman and prayer."
