Jino Rodrigo recovering from hospital after TKO loss to Cain Sandoval By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Mon, 06 Oct 2025 ![]() Jino Rodrigo, our prayers are with you. Keep on getting better! For me, the brutal knockout suffered by Filipino boxer Jino Rodrigo at the hands of Mexican-American slugger Cain "Sugar" Sandoval was heartbreaking. Jino Rodrigo, 28, hailing from Angono, Rizal Province, put up a valiant fight, but ultimately fell victim to Sandoval's devastating power in their televised lightweight bout held two days ago at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California 🇺🇸. Jino Rodrigo and Cain Sandoval engaged in an intense, action-packed contest, with Rodrigo landing solid shots in the fourth round. Sandoval's relentless pressure and combination punches wore Rodrigo down, leading to a brutal knockout in the 10th round. Cain Sandoval was clearly ahead 88-83 (x2) and 89-82 on the judges' scorecards when the knock out occurred. As a result of the blows to his head, Jino Rodrigo had to get hospitalized as is now receiving treatment with a worrisome blood clot in the brain. Thanks God, he is getting better and his life is out of danger. Yes, its not good, but it could have been so much worse. We must be thankful that our strong boy has survived. But other boxers not. Weeks ago, boxers Kotari and Urakawa died in Japan from brain injuries from blows received during their fights, another one, Shigeoka, has been comatose, and another one, Sasaki, was stretchered out of the arena and rushed to the hospital, suffering memory loss, unable to remember his fight or the period leading up to it. All of this weeks ago. Now, Jino Rodrigo is recovering in hospital with brain injury, his boxing career surely finished, which breaks our hearts, but more important is his health, and that’s why we must all pray to our Lord Jesus for Jino’s his fast recovery. 🙏🏼 The corner of Jayson Vayson was unfairly criticized for stopping his fight “too early” – what do those very same critics say now?
