SEPTEMBER 26

TOKYO, JAPAN: LIGHT: SHU UTSUKI (17-1) W TKO 2 WIRA MIKHAM (19-2).
UTSUKI retains the WBO Asia Pacific title as he drops challenger MIKHAM twice for a stoppage in the second round. A right sent Mikham down late in the first and two rights put Mikham on the floor in the second with the fight being stopped. Fifteenth inside the distance victories for Utsuki who was defending the WBO Asia Pacific title for the second time. He also holds the OPBF title and was 108-27 as an amateur. Thai Mikham suffers his second TKO defeat having been halted in 44 seconds when losing to Dayan Gonzalez in Liverpool in December

BANGKOK, THAILAND: FLY: THANANCHAI CHARUNPHAK (28-2) W PTS 10 ARNOLD GARDE (13-16).
CHARUNPHAK wins the WBC Asian title with a points victory over GARDE. The Filipino was aggressive from the start and looked dangerous with his left hooks. Charunphak used his faster hands, better skills and superior accuracy to control the fight. He also used some effective body work to slow Garde and then coasted over the last two rounds. A unanimous decision on scores of 99-91, 98-93 and 97-92. Charunphak, 25, had put together a 24-fight winning streak before losing a split decision against Japan’s Sergio Yuri Akul in a challenge for the WBA flyweight title October. Garde is 3-3-3 in his last 9 fights.

LONDON , ENGLAND: Super Middle: LERRONE RICHARDS (19-1) W PTS 6 DYLAN COURTNEY (2-23-2).
RICHARDS returns to action with a points win over COURTNEY. Plenty of southpaw jabs from Richards throughout the fight with Courtney constantly circling looking for a way inside. It was almost a one handed showing from Richards as he used his left only for occasional counters and seemed content to get in some rounds. He did up his pace over the fifth and sixth but Courtney has only lost inside the distance twice and he stayed the whole six rounds. Referee’s score 60-54. First fight for Richards since being floored and stopped by Steed Woodall in June last year. Now 22 losses in a row for Courtney.

VEJLE, DENMARK: CRUISER: DITLEV ROSSING (19-1) W PTS 6 DARIUSZ SKOP (6-8).
ROSSING gets an easy win over Pole Skop. It was an untidy fight with SKOP focusing on survival from the start. Rossing allowed himself to be drawn into untidy exchanges instead of using his better skills and it was a poor fight. All three cards reads 60-54 for Rossing who seems content to feed on sub-standard opposition. He has won his last 4 fights and Skop, 40, has lost his last 8.

SEPTEMBER 27

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL: LIGHT: BEATRIZ FERREIRA (8-0) W PTS 10 MAIRA MONEO (16-3). SUPER MIDDLE: HEBERT CONCEICAO (9-0) W PTS 10 YAMAGUCHI FALCAO (25-3-1). CRUISER: ACELINO FREITAS W DISQ 4 WANDERLEI SILVA
Ferreira vs. Moneo
IBF champion FERREIRA wins a unanimous decision over MONEO to retain her title. Ferreira almost dropped Moneo in the first round but the challenger from Uruguay recovered and attacked hard in the second and third. Ferreira again had Moneo hurt in the fifth but Moneo rebounded to put Ferreira under pressure over the sixth. Ferreira then opened a gap in the points as she used her superior speed and skill. Moneo staged a strong finish pinning Ferreira against the ropes for much of the tenth but It was too late to overcome the lead Ferreira had built. Scores 98-92 twice and 96-94 for Ferreira. She was making the third defence of the IBF title and this was her first fight as a professional in her home country. She is reported as having had over 100 amateur fights and was Pan American and World Champion as well as winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Moneo is a former WBA and WBC interim champion but lost on points against Caroline Dubois for the IBO title in August last year.

Conceicao vs. Falcao
CONCEICAO wins every round over FALCAO. The younger Conceicao was just too quick for southpaw Falcao. He scored freely over the first two rounds and bloodied Falcao’s nose in the third. This was a surprisingly friendly fight as Falcao cracked a few jokes and they both did little dances with some sharp footwork and with Conceicao even giving Falcao a hug after Falcao slipped a bunch of punches. It was a rainy night and from the sixth Conceicao had problems with the slippery canvas and he slipped to the canvas three times. Despite those problems Conceicao continued to dominate and he upped the pace over the closing rounds but had to settle for winning 100-90 on all three cards. Conceicao retained the Brazilian title and won the vacant WBO Latino title. Conceicao won a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and Falcao, 37, who lost to David Morell in a challenge for the WBA secondary title in 2023, won a silver at the 2012 London Games.
Freitas vs. Silva
FREITAS beats MMA fighter SILVA on a fourth round disqualification. Freitas weighed 162 ¾ lbs and Silva 206 ¾. It was held under the jurisdiction of the Brazilian Federation rules but I don’t believe it qualifies as part of Freitas record. The fight ended in the fourth after Silva was disqualified for butting Freitas three times. The ring was invaded by people from both corners and it turned nasty when one of Silva’s supporters punched an unprotected Freitas. A wild melee broke out there were fights in every part of the ring. It was strange to see people in smart suits and bow ties swapping punches. Silva moved in looking to calm things was knocked out cold by a punch. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution but was later released. It really was a disgrace.

MONTREAL, CANADA: MINIMUM: KIM CLAVEL(22-2) W PTS 10 SOL CUDOS (10-1-2). WELTER: MAZLUM AKDENIZ (22-0) W TKO 4 ANTHOINY SOTO (13-1-1). HEAVY: NELVIE TIAFACK (2-0) W RTD 4 RAMIRO ROBLES (5-1).

Clavel vs. Cudos
CLAVEL outpoints champion CUDOS to win the IBF title. The first round was close but then Clavel altered her tactics slightly and was fully in charge of the fight from there. She was particularly effective with left hooks. She was taking steps back to avoid being dragged into a brawl and used her greater experience to pace the fight . A cut over her right eye in the fifth did not alarm Clavel and after a close sixth she swept the remaining rounds to win on scores of 99-91 twice and 98-92. A former WBC light flyweight title holder Clavel moved down to minimumweight with a win over Anabel Ortiz in February. Argentinian Cudos was defending the title for the first time.
Akdeniz vs. Soto
Unbeaten Canadian southpaw AKDENIZ beats SOTO in four rounds. Soto was four inches taller than Akdeniz and had a longer reach but lacked the skills to make those advantages count. Soto had to soak up punishment over the first three rounds and was cut under his left eye late in the third. Soto took more punishment in the fourth and his team threw in nthe towel.
Tiafack vs. Robles
Another heavyweight hope to keep an eye out for as Cameroon-born German TIAFACK beats Californian ROBLES on a fourth round retirement. The 6’2 ½”
Tiafack showed plenty of power and a solid defence. He was much too good for Robles and the fight was very one-sided. Robles took a hammering for four rounds and his team retired him at the end of the round. Tiafack won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024, a gold at the European Championships and bronze at the European Games. In the amateurs he scored wins over Mourad Aliev, Frazier Clarke and Delicious Orie

PUERTO MONTT, CHILE: SUPER FEATHER: JUNIOR CRUZAT (16-0) W DISQ 10 JACKSON FURTADO (12-3).
Chilean CRUZAT wins the vacant UBO title with a disqualification victory over Brazilian FURTADO. The 5’7 ½” Cruzat had lots of hight and reach over Furtado and scored a knockdown in the third with a right to the head. He looked on his way to a comfortable win when Furtado landed a punch to the back of Cruzat’s head. Furtado had been warned before so had no excuse. Cruzat, has been carefully matched so has yet to face an opponent of any real quality. Furtado, 37, had caused a bit of an upset when he outpointed unbeaten Dominik Harwankowski to win the Polish International belt in April.

ASCHERSLEBEN, GERMANY: SUPER WELTER: JULIAN VOGEL (17-0-2) DREW 10 SAMI AHMETI (9-0-1). LIGHT: NENAD STANCIC (17-0) W PTS 10 YOHAN MOROCOIMA (19-2). CRUISER: ARMEND XHOXHAJ (22-4) W RTD 2 SEMIR DAUTOVIC (8-4-2).
Vogel vs. Ahmeti
VOGEL holds on to his WBO Youth title with a hard-fought draw against AHMETI. The challenger was conceding almost 5” in height against the 5’11” Vogel and that worked to Vogel’s advantage over the first two rounds. He used good movement and strong jabbing to frustrate Ahmeti’s pressure. That changed in the third and fourth as Vogel allowed himself to be drawn into standing and trading punches. Vogel went back to his boxing and looked to have taken the middle rounds opening a gap in the points. Ahmeti came roaring back over the eighth and ninth and had Vogel out on his feet in the tenth but Vogel made it to the bell. The judges’ cards read 95-95 twice and 96-94 to Vogel and the draw looked about right. Still only 22 Vogel has time to improve but despite some very careful matching still does not really impress as a star of the future. Vogel was a big step in quality from Ahmeti’s previous opposition and this was his first ten round fight. He is 21 so like Vogel there is time to improve.
Stancic vs. Morocolima
STANCIC wins a comfortable points victory over Venezuelan MOROCOLIMA. Stancic boxed carefully over the first three rounds settling to outbox Morocolima perhaps worried over 18 of the Venezuelan’s wins coming inside the distance. Morocolima had a good fourth round but that was the only time he posed a threat. Stancic continued to score freely and Morocolima made a couple of rounds close but Stancic was a clear winner on scores of 97-93 on the three score cards. Stancic is ready for better opposition. Morocolima’s record is ridiculously heavily padded with 16 of the guys he beat never having won a fight
Xhoxhaj vs. Dautovic
Kosovan XHOXHAJ was just looking to get a few rounds under his belt against Bosnian DAUTOVIC. Xhoxhaj managed to get inside the reach of the 6’5 ½” Dautovic in the first but the Bosnian did a bit better in the second. Surprisingly Dautovic retired at the end of the round with a damaged shoulder. Xhoxhaj lost a big fight when he was stopped in two rounds by 21-0 Huseyin Cinkara in April last year but this is his fourth win on the way back.

KAUNAS, LITHUANIA: WELTER: EIMANTAS STANIONIS (16-0, 1ND) W PTS 10 JABULANI MAKHENSE W (16-3).
STANIONIS, a former holder of the secondary WBA welterweight title, returns to action with a with a unanimous decision over South African MAKHENSE. Stanionis took control from the start easily overcoming Makhense’s longer reach and dominating the action with his own jab to put Makhense on the defensive. Relentless pressure and some hard body shots slowly broke Makhense down and as the fight progressed he took more and more punishment and his own punch output dropped. Stanionis went looking for an inside the distance win over the closing rounds but although hurt a number of times Makhense made it to the final bell. Stanionis won on scores of 99-91 twice and 100-90. First fight for Stanionis since losing to Jaron Ennis in April in a challenge for Ennis’s IBF title and a defence of his own secondary WBA title. Creditable opposition from Makhense whose other losses have come against Tulani Mbenge and unbeaten Russian Vitaly Petryakov.

TIJUANA, MEXICO: MIDDLE: LAZARO LORENZANA (18-0) W TKO 6 JESUS VEGA (26-4-2).
San Diego-born Mexican LORENZANA had more trouble with the ring canvas then he did with his opponent VEGA. Lorenzana slipped to the canvas three times before a team came and cleaned out the ring and Lorenzana changed his boots. It worked well and a Lorenzana left hook in the sixth finished Vega. Lorenzana, 26, was defending the WBC USA Silver belt. Vega was 11-1-1 going in and his losses have been in some tough fights.

CANCUN. MEXICO: SUPER FLY: JOSELITO VELAZQUEZ (22-1-1) W TKO 4 ANIEL VIAMONTES (15-2). SUPER BANTAM: CELEX CASTRO (21-0) W PTS 10 ARTURO HERNANDEZ (10-8).
Velazquez vs. Viamontes
VELAZQUEZ scores three knockdowns on his way to a win over VIAMONTES. He floored Viamontes in the first with the bell saving Viamontes. He continued to score heavily over the second and third punishing southpaw Viamontes with left hooks to the body. A body punch sent Viamontes down again in the fourth. Viamontes made it to his feet but Velasquez kept him pinned against the ropes until anther left hook to the body put Viamontes on the floor again. The referee started the count but abandoned it at eight waiving the fight over. Velazquez, a 2016 Olympian and twice a PanAmerican Games gold medallist, dropped a decision against Cristofer Rosales in 2022 but seven has seven wins in a row since then and is No 1 with the WBO so looking for a shot at “ Bam Bam” Rodriguez. Viamontes had won 12 of his last 13 fights
Castro vs. Hernandez
Boxing in front of his home fans CASTRO adds another win with a points verdict over HERNANDEZ. The fight was fairly even over the first two rounds but then Castro began to roll and slowly ground Hernandez down with well-placed shots to head and body. Hernandez did not crumble and was never in deep trouble but he was well beaten on scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93. Castro, 25, has been making steady progress and is No 14 with the WBO. Third consecutive defeat for Hernandez with his 7 losses all coming on points.

HERMOSILLO, MEXICO: SUPER BANTAM: NOEL REYES (20-4) W PTS 10 VICTOR SANTILLAN (14-3).
REYES makes it 14 wins in a row as he outpoints southpaw SANTILLAN in an all-Dominican clash. No scores available. Reyes has wins over Norberto Jimenez and Nehomar Cermeno. Santillan was 1-2 going in after two losses in Japan.

NIKSIC, MONTENEGRO: SUPER MIDDLE: MILORAD ZIZIC (15-2) W KO 2 KIM POULSEN (32-9).
ZIZIC dismantles a washed-up POULSEN in two rounds. A right hook to the head dropped Poulsen in the first. In the second Zizic drove Poulsen to a corner and pounded him with punches and as Poulsen slumped back into the ropes the referee came in to save the Dane. Zizic, 38, was 11-0 at one time but a couple of inside the distance losses saw him inactive from 2016 until 2022 and then again in 2023 and 2024. This is third inside the distance win since his 2022 return. Poulsen was 26-1 at the start of his career but he weighed 127 lbs in his first pro fight and was 167 ¾ lbs for this one.

ZIEBICE, POLAND: MIDDLE: KAROL WELTER (19-1) W TKO 9 MAKSIM HARDZEIKA (13-2).
Pole WELTER extends his winning run to 13 fights with a stoppage of Polish-based Belarusian HARDZEIKA. Welter had huge edges in height and reach over Hardzeika and won all the way. Hardzeika is used to conceding physical advantages and fought hard here to extend Welter but the pace and the dominance of Walter’s jab wore him down and the fight was stopped in the ninth. No real tests for Welter since his defeat against Przemyslaw Gorgon for the Polish title in 2021. First inside the distance defeat for Hardzeika.

BANGKOK, THAILAND: FEATHYER: DAYAN GONZALEZ (18-0) W TKO 4 RHONEX CAPULOY (13-3).
Gonzalez vs. Capuloy
IBO champion GONZALEZ continues to rack-up wins even if somewhat under the radar as he beats Filipino southpaw CAPULOY in four rounds of a non-title fight. The heavily muscled Cuban quickly had Capuloy on the back foot with hard jabs and straight rights and Capuloy was essentially in survival mode from the start simply circling the perimeter of the ring just trying to stay out of trouble. Gonzalez had little success hunting down Capuloy in the first but began to get through with body shots in the second. Capuloy was forced to stand and trade and was hurt by a couple of left hooks but twice managed to make Gonzalez strep back with some lefts of his own. Gonzalez was loading up on every punch in the third but Capuloy kept fighting back in short bursts. In the fourth a wicked right hook to the head from Gonzalez sent Capuloy down heavily. He made it to his feet but Gonzalez unloaded a barrage of hooks and uppercuts that had Capuloy reeling across the ring and with Capuloy pinned against the ropes and soaking up fierce head punches the referee stopped the fight. The 26-year-old Cuban has 16 inside the distance finishes including an ongoing run of 12 in a row. He is based in Dubai and has done most of his fighting there but won the vacant IBO title in Liverpool in December with a 44-second demolition of then unbeaten Wira Mikham. Third loss by KO/TKO for Capuloy.

FETHIYE, TURKEY: CRUISER: HASAN ALCU (19-0) W PTS 12 LUCIANO FALCAO (11-1).
ALCU wins the vacant WBF title with a unanimous decision over Brazilian champion FALCAO. Scores 115-113 twice and 117-111. Alcu has win a number of minor belts but at 5’8” is small for a cruiserweight and will find it hard when he faces some quality opposition. Falcao, also 5’8”, has weighed as little as 175 lbs and as much as 208 lbs so his weight/fitness fluctuates.

SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND: SUPER LIGHT: SEAN McCOMB (20-2) W PTS 10 BEN CROCKER (14-1-1) W. SUPER BANTAM: TYSIE GALLAGHER (10-2) W PTS 10 ELLIE HELLEWELL (7-1). MIDDLE: SHAKIEL THOMPSON (15-0) W KO 2 GRANT DENNIS (19-16). LIGHT: REECE MOULD (21-4) W PTS 6 BENITO SANCHEZ (17-12-3).
McComb vs. Crocker
McCOMB rebounds from a first round knockdown to outpoint CROCKER. A beautiful left hook put McComb down in the first round but he got up and boxed his way to the bell. McComb’s better skills and deeper experience came into play and although he showed a little extra caution he kept busy jabbing well and firing body punches. Crocker occasionally looked dangerous with left hooks but despite the first round knockdown he is not a heavy puncher-only two wins by KO/TKO-and did not pressure McComb hard enough nor often enough. Mc Comb was able to pick up the points with shots at range and although Crocker had some success McCombs was a good winner by 96-93 on the three cards. McCombs wins the IBF European title which will get him a rating as he puts his split decision loss to Arnold Barboza Jr behind him. Crocker was making the second defence of the IBF regional title.
Gallagher vs. Hellewell
GALLAGHER returns to action with a unanimous decision over local unbeaten fighter HELLEWELL. In her first fight for exactly one year Gallagher took a couple of rounds to get into her stride and Hellewell looked to have made the better start. Gallagher took control from the third with some classy boxing skills. Hellewell’s jab had posed some problems for Gallagher early but Gallagher was able to get inside and score with some hurtful counters and used her slick footwork to slide out again. Hellewell pressed hard but was simply outboxed and a strong finish from Gallagher slammed the door on any chance Hellewell might have had Gallagher won on scores of 98-93, 97-93 and 97-94. Gallagher was defending her British, Commonweal and WBO International titles. She suffered the tragedy of her mother being murdered in January. She has dedicated her career to her mother and hopes to now go on to land another world title fight having lost a majority decision in France to Segolene Lefebvre for the WBO title in 2023. Hellewell, 25, was in only her second ten round fight so with more experienced will be challenge for titles again in the future.
Thompson vs. Dennis
Sheffield southpaw THOMPSON beats DENNIS in two rounds. The 6’3” Thompson was able to keep Dennis on the back foot from the start. Dennis circled the ring looking for but not finding a way to get inside. In the second Thompson was warned for a low punch but then dug in a right to the body and Dennis dropped to one knee and was counted out. Having won the IBF European title Thompson enjoys a currently too high No 6 rating with the IBF and his WBO Gold belt gets him a No 8 rating with the WBO. Ninth defeat in a row for Dennis.
Mould vs. Sanchez
Mould gets in some ring time as he outpoints Mexican Sanchez. Referee’s score 60-54. Former English champ[ion Mould was 13-0 at the start of his career but it is now 3-3 in his last 6.

KISSIMMEE, FL, USA: LIGHT HEAVY: NAJEE LOPEZ (15-0) W TKO 5 KALVIN HENDERSON (19-3-1). SUPER WELTER: RAUL GARCIA (15-2-1) W PTS 10 EMILIANO MORENO (12-1,1 ND). SUPER FEATHER: CHRISTIAN CRUZ (24-7-1) W PTS 10 JEREMY Hill (22-4-1))
Lopez vs. Henderson
LOPEZ gets his twelfth inside the distance win with a fifth round stoppage of HENDERSON. Lopez outworked Henderson over the first four rounds. With the speed and accuracy of Lopez’s punches Henderso just could not find a way into the fight. Lopez had a dominant fourth walking forward behind his jab and firing hooks to head and body with Henderson forced onto the retreat for the whole three minutes. Henderson tried to take the fight to Lopez in the fifth but was caught by a long right that knocked him off balance. Lopez followed-up forcing Henderson to the ropes and when he connected with a series of head punches that brought nthe referee’s intervention. The 6’2” Puerto Rican, a former National Golden Gloves silver medallist, gets win No 12 by KO/TKO. Henderson lost to David Morell on a fourth round stoppage in 2022 in a challenge for the secondary WBA super middle belt.
Garcia vs. Moreno
Dominican GARCIA springs a mild upset as he takes a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten MORENO. Garcia’s faster hands and some clever boxing gave him the edge. He kept popping Moreno with jabs disrupting Moreno’s rhythm and darting in and out with quick attacks. Moreno kept marching forward but Garcia was drawing his lead and then stepping in with a couple of fast punches. Garcia basically outworked Moreno. The judges scored it 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 for Garcia. He had lost back-to-back fights against Leonardo Ruiz and Vladimir Hernandez but has now bounced back with a good win. The taller Moreno just lacked the speed to match Garcia.
Cruz vs. Hill
Another mild upset as CRUZ takes a split decision over HILL. With Hill being 6” taller Cruz had to use his speed to get close enough to score. He was greatly helped by Hill waiting too long to throw his punches and just not throwing enough. Hill was taking the centre of the ring with Cruz buzzing around him and Cruiz was quick enough to out jab Hill at times. Hill finally woke up over the last three rounds which he won. That narrowed the points gap but not enough to overcome the early dominance of Cruz. Scores 96-94 twice for Cruz and 96-94 for Hill. Cruz is 8-1-1 in his last 10 fights with the defeat coming against rated Roman Villa in April last year. Hill was unbeaten in his last 7 and coming off a good win over 20-0 Maliek Montgomery.

BALTIMORE, MD, USA: CRUISER: MUHSIN CASON (14-0) W TKO 3 RAPHAEL CAROLINA. LIGHT: MACK ALLISON IV (22-4-1) W EDGAR GARCIA (4-1).
Cason vs. Carolina
CASON stops CAROLINA in the third. Cason floored Carolina in the second and again in the third to get the victory. Seven inside the distant wins in a row for 6’3” Cason who wins the Universal Boxing Federation All American title. Fifth defeat in his last six fights for Carolina.
Alison vs. Garcia
Baltimore’s ALLISON makes it 13 wins in his last 14 bouts as he takes a unanimous decision over Guatemalan GARCIA. Scores 80-72 twice and 79-73. Garcia’s four wins have come inside the distance but against fighters with combined records of 0-13.

REVERE, MA, SUPER WELTER: JAHYEE BROWN (18-2) W PTS 8 GABRIEL ESCALANTE (14-5). HEAVY: KEVIN NAGLE (11-0) W PTS 8 HAROLD ROY (5-2-1).
Brown vs. Escalante
BROWN picks up the vacant WBC USA belt with a unanimous decision over ESCALANTE on scores of 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74. Brown’s losses came in consecutive fights back in 2023 but he has rebuilt with five wins. Nicaraguan Escalante is 0-3 in fights in the USA.
Nagle vs. Roy
NAGEL picks up the vacant Massachusetts State title and retains the WBC USA title with a close unanimous points victory against ROY. No young lions these two with Nagel 41 and 282 lbs and Rob 44 and 244 lbs.

BILOXI, MS, USA: SUPER LIGHT: DEVIN CUSHING (18-0) W KO 3 CARLOS PORTILLO (23-9).
CUSHING beats Paraguayan PORTILLO in the third round. There was an early shock with Portillo putting Cushing down. Cushing recovered and landed a left and a right in the third that saw Portillo collapse to his hands and knees. He was unsteady when he got up a right and a left hook dropped him again and he was counted out as he tried to make it to his feet. Now 14 wins by KO/TKO for Floridian Cushing but five defeats on the trot for Portillo.

BANGKOK, THAILAND: : MIDDLE: SERGEI VOROBEV (21-3-2) W TKO 1 VACHAYAN KHAMON(12-49 1) . MIDDLE: TEJ PRATAP SINGH (20-8-3) W TKO 2 UDOMSAP UDOMRIT (2-8).
Australians Vorobev and Singh showed up on a card in Bangkok scoring wins over a couple of very low level Thais in four round bouts.
