MERCADO WINS IN JAPAN; RACHMAN WINS COMEBACK FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 30 Jun 2008 Filipino super bantamweight Jerope ?Nino de Oro? Mercado who is based in Japan has scored an eighth round unanimous decision over Masayoshi Nishi at the Sambo Hall in Kobe, Hyogo. With the win Mercado who fights out of Kobe moves to 15-1-2 with 5 knockouts while Nishi drops to 8-8-3 with 4 knockouts. The 28 year old Filipino?s only defeat was in a Philippine super flyweight title fight with Eden Sonsona which he lost by a ninth round TKO on October 14, 2006. In his last fight on March 20, 2008, Mercado scored a first round knockout of Jensuk Sakbuntam. He had previously figured in a draw against South Africa ?s Vusi Malinga in a WBC International bantamweight title bout on February 2, 2007. Meanwhile, former International Boxing Federation minimum weight champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia has won a ten round unanimous decision over talented Filipino youngster Edren Dapudong in his first comeback fight since losing the title to Florante Condes on July 7, 2007 in Jakarta. Condes subsequently lost the title by a split decision earlier this month to Mexico ?s Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz. Rachman has been eager to get another crack at the world title and his win over Dapudong in the Trans 7 studio in Jakarta should help improve his rating. The 37 year old Rachman is currently rated No. 4 by the IBF. With the win the Indonesian veteran moves to 62-6-5 with 31 knockouts while Dapudong reportedly drops to 12-1-1 with 6 knockouts.
