Manila---FIDE Master (FM) Robert Suelo Jr. lived up to expectations as he ruled the May edition of the Wonderland Open Rapid Chess Tournament held last May 18, 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Suelo finished with 5.5 points on account of five wins and one draw in six outings, the same output of countryman Marc Kevin Labog.
However, Suelo, an active member of International Churches of Christ (ICOC) in Laos brought home the title plus 3,000 Thai Baht after a superior tie break in the 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment time control event organized by Thamonthaanyawath Nalinpan.
Labog, on the other hand, settled for a runner-up purse of 2,000 Thai Baht for his efforts.
Peranut Kaewchum of Thailand wound up third with 4.5 points for 1,000 Thai Baht.
Suelo currently works at chess teacher in Laos. Born and raised in Quezon City, Suelo is best remembered for helping the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong woodpushers to steer the national championships title during the national inter-collegiate in the mid 90's.

He split the point with Labog in the fourth round.
"First of all I would like to thank God," Suelo said.
"I'm happy to win again," added Suelo.
