HALL OF FAME BROADCASTER JIM LAMPLEY TO PARTICIPATE IN 2025 HALL OF FAME WEEKEND FESTIVITIES PhilBoxing.com Fri, 16 May 2025 ![]() Annual Hall of Fame Weekend celebration set for June 5 - 8 CANASTOTA, NY - MAY 15, 2025 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum is pleased to announce that Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Lampley will participate in 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend festivities set for June 5-8 in “Boxing’s Hometown.” “During his Hall of Fame career Jim Lampley established himself as one of the sport’s most popular and accomplished voices who provided the soundtrack to so many iconic boxing matches on HBO,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are thrilled that he will return to Canastota to take part in Hall of Fame Weekend events.” Lampley’s broadcasting career begin in 1974 as a sideline reporter on ABC’s college football broadcasts. During his 12 years at ABC he hosted Wide World of Sports and served as blow-by-blow announcer for over 40 boxing matches including Mike Tyson vs. Jesse Ferguson in 1986. In March 1988 he began calling boxing action for HBO as blow-by-blow announcer on its World Championship Boxing telecasts and was at ringside until 2018. Among the legendary fights he’s called include Tyson vs. Douglas, Foreman vs. Moorer and landmark trilogies between Gatti-Ward, Bowe-Holyfield and Morales-Barrera. He also covered a record 14 Olympic Games for U.S. television and is a four-time Sports Emmy Award winner. Lampley recently released his memoir IT HAPPENED! A Uniquely Lucky Life in Sports Television. Lampley will discuss his book and answer questions from fans at a “Ringside Talk” on the Hall of Fame Museum Grounds during Hall of Fame Weekend festivities. The book will be on sale in the Hall of Fame’s gift shop and Lampley will be available to autograph copies. The Class of 2025 to be honored includes boxers Manny Pacquiao, Vinny Paz, Michael Nunn, Yessica Chavez, Anne Sophie Mathis, Mary Jo Sanders, Cathy “Cat” Davis, Rodrigo Valdez (posthumous), Owen Swift (posthumous), referee Kenny Bayless, cut man Al Gavin (posthumous),referee Harry Gibbs (posthumous), broadcaster / journalist Randy Gordon and television producer Ross Greenburg. ![]() |
