Warriors Win First of Heavy Road Outings, Whip Washington Wizards, 125-112

The Golden State Warriors seemed to treat the first of its heavy road assignments this week up to early next week as a tune up as it led from the get go in handily defeating the host Washington Wizards, 125-112.

Again coach Steve Kerr had the luxury of rotating almost his entire bench, affording Stephen Curry, who was coming back from three games absence due to injury, a long time on the sidelines in the first half.

Curry sat down after logging 13 minutes and hitting a triple. He later came back to put finishing touches on the lead built through the combined efforts of Buddy Hield, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green, Gary Payton II and Trayce Jackson Davis for the Warriors which took a comfortable 54-45 lead at the break. Jackson Davis again was a revelation with his alley-oop baskets and strong presence on the slot despite the Wizzard's having two seven footers in Jonas Valenciunas and Alex Sarr.

Curry then joined his teammates in erecting leads as high as 18 points in the third quarter as Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Lundy Waters III got into the act and gave Golden State a 93-81 bubble at the end of the third period.

Washington tried a fight back in the fourth quarter through former Warrior Jordan Poole, Bilal Coulibaly, Valenciunas, Jared Butler, Carlton Carrington, Kyshawn George and Sarr and they managed to whittle down the lead to single digit with the time down to just five minutes.

But with Curry and Hield hitting shots from afar and under the basket supported by Jackson Davis and Kevon Looney's strong play at the slot, the lead was back to sizeable margins in no time. The Warriors merely traded the Wizzards basket for basket as time wound down.

Despite his limited time, Curry still led Golden State in scoring with 24 followed by Hield with 20 and Green with 18 and 8 rebounds. Kuminga finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Jackson Davis had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Moody added 10 points while Looney grabbed a team high 10 boards.

Poole led Washington with 24 points supported by George with 20 and Carrington and Valenciunas with 16 points each. Sarr had 10 points. Valenciunas and Sarr combined for 23 rebounds.

Golden State (now 6-1) needed the win as their next road assignments would be against the current top three teams of the league, Boston Celtics (7-1) on Thursday, Cleveland Cavaliers (8-0) on Saturday and Oklahoma City Thunder (7-0) on Monday.
