PACQUIAO JOGS DESPITE LAS VEGAS HEAT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 25 Jun 2008 Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao beat the sweltering heat of over 100 degrees in Las Vegas by jogging at 6:00 a.m. according to ABS-CBN?s Dyan Castillejo who is on site for the ?Lethal Combination? showdown between Pacquiao and lightweight champion David Diaz. In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Castillejo said Pacquiao jogged for 30 minutes at the University of Nevada Las Vegas oval at the crack of dawn and a rundown of sprints and sit-ups and stretching and then did the walk-in at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Castillejo said there were lots of media and although Diaz also did his walk-in Pacquiao got all the attention. She said the two fighters also went to the arena where the ring had already been Set-up and did more interviews. Pacquiao also worked out at the nicely laid-out IBA Gym from 4:00 to around 5:30 p.m. Castillejo quoted Pacquiao as saying he is between 138 to139 pounds which is about three or four pounds over the lightweight limit. While Pacquiao drove to Las Vegas as he normally does in a 15 vehicle convoy, Diaz took a private plane with six people, including promoter Bob Arum, after the press conference and pep rally at the Santa Monica pier where there was a terrific turnout of fans and media. Diaz said "as its been the whole time, Manny's fans have been very gracious." Diaz said during the plane ride Arum "told us some terrific stories about his 40 years of promoting. He's promoted some of the biggest events in boxing. Its easy to listen to him and pick up on the history of the sport." Diaz reported he was headed for the gym the following morning "for a full workout" which will be followed by a short media workout at the Events Center. Diaz said the most satisfying aspect of the fight is that he would earn enough ($800,000) to ensure his children get a good college education.
