EX-IBF CHAMP RACHMAN BATTLES DAPUDONG
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Jun 2008
Indonesia's Muhammad Rachman gets back in the ring on June 28, almost a year after losing his International Boxing Federation (IBF) miniflyweight crown to the Philippines Florante Condes, taking on the young Edrin Dapudong of North Cotabato in a 10-round junior flyweight fight in Jakarta.
Rachman, who at 36 is 15 years older than Dapudong, is hoping to score an impressive win over the 21-year-old Filipino to mark his comeback with a positive note.
The Indonesian former world champion holds a record of 61 wins with 31 KOs and 6 losses in a long professional career that started in his native Papua, Indonesia.
Dapudong, a native of M'lang, North Cotabato and a member of the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Pinol, is also hoping to score a victory over Rachman to barge into the world rankings of the IBF.
Currently the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Miniflyweight Champion, Dapudong holds an impressive record of 12 wins with 6 KOs and 1 loss.
Just like Rachman, Dapudong, 5' 4", is moving up to the junior flyweight division where he is more comfortable and may have to relinguish his WBO crown later this year.
Dapudong will leave for JakartaJune 25 with Braveheart Boxing Club co-owner and manager Col. Pat Pinol and trainer Dante Bruce Lerio.
