Heavyweight Contender Believes Ngannou Can Hurt Joshua In Upcoming Titanic Clash PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 Mar 2024 Anthony Joshua faces a much sterner test than many might think as he takes on UFC fighter Francis Ngannou, with heavyweight contender Joe Joyce believing that the British fighter may well be in for quite a scrap when they take to the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this Friday. The clash between Joshua and Ngannou is attracting a great deal of interest, and the level of demand for PPV access is high, as is the amount of wagers being placed on the outcome of the clash. Those who fancy placing a bet on the bout can make the most of the boxing betting insights here ahead of the encounter. Anthony Joshua (L) and Francis Ngannou (R) gesture at each other during Wednesday's press conference in Saudi Arabia. 34-year-old Joshua comes into the clash off the back of three wins secured in 2023, albeit against what many might deem inferior opponents, those victories coming against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin. Prior to those wins, it had looked as if Joshua’s boxing career could be set to come to an abrupt end after he lost his titles due to back-to-back losses against the impressive Ukranianan scrapper Oleksandr Usyk. One man who feels that Joshua has a lot to prove is Joe Joyce, who commented in a recent interview about his sparring with Ngannou, "Because he's an MMA fighter and he's not really been concentrating on boxing, he was a little bit more open and I could kind of see where the shots were coming from, move out the way and keep him on the jab. But them power shots are whistling past my abs and my chin in the process!" "But we had a really good spar and I've got a lot of respect for Ngannou." "Of course. If he lands one of those big shots like he hit Fury with, then I don't think Joshua's going to get up from that," "He [Joshua] will probably be cagey in there. I think it's going to be a good fight. As a match up they've both got power. I think it's a great fight.” Joyce concluded. Joyce had a 15-0 record prior to two fights against Zhilei Zhang, with the Chinese boxer beating him first at the Copper Box Arena in April 2023 via a TKO and then again just five months later, this time via a third-round knockout at Wembley Arena. He is set for a return to the ring in March, where he will face Kash Ali and is already plotting a return to the top, should he dispatch his opponent, "It's all happening at heavyweight," he said. "I think against any of those top names that we just mentioned would be great. A rematch with Parker, rematch with [Daniel] Dubois. There's Wilder, Joshua, Fury, [Oleksandr] Usyk… I can box everybody.” "It's the entertainment business and there's plenty of good fights you'd like to see me in." Joyce added. On the likely outcome of the Joshua vs Ngannou clash, Joyce made a bold prediction, "If the odds are good for a Francis knockout, I’m putting my money on that. It’s a 50-50 fight. I'll say Joshua on points or Ngannou for the upset by KO.” |
