ACM Joemel Narzabal rules NC64 FIDE Rated Event

MANILA---Arena Candidate Master Joemel Narzabal of Dipolog City reigned supreme in the Negros Chess Club 64 (NC64) FIDE rated age-group invitational chess championship 18 and under division held at the Silliman Hall, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. on Saturday, August 19.

Fresh from his Palarong Pambansa stint, Narzabal stamped his class in the ultra competitive 18 and under category with six straight wins and an insurance draw against top seed Christian Pelione of Bacolod City in the final round to capture the title in a field of 70 participants in the Negros Chess Club 64, Inc. and Little Kingsmen organized seven round swiss tournament.
Pelione, Lance Nathaniel Orlina of Sibulan, and Palarong Pambansa standout Chester Acuyong of Roxas City occupied the second to fourth spots with 6.0 points each.

Bacolod City's top junior players Shawn Augustine Paril and Einre Mar Abanco both secured the 5th and 6th spots with identical 5.5 points apiece.

Rounding out the top 10 are 2022 Batang Pinoy and Thailand Eastern Asia Youth medalist Michael Jan Stephen Rosalem Inigo of Bayawan City, 2023 Palarong Pambansa bronze medalist Jamelin Ruth Lim of Bacolod City, CVIRAA standout Andre Cardosa of Cebu and surprise local finisher and LK member James Heinrich Famacion of Foundation University who all scored 5.0 points.

In the 13 & Under category, international campaigner ACM Beau Adriel Pagayona from Iloilo City scored 6.5 points for clear first in a mammoth field of 150 registered players. A big chase group of six pointers saw Dauin's wunderkind and NYSCC medalist Markley Partosa securing 2nd place, surprise visitor Shadrack Mahdy Villacastin at 3rd, Valencia's Dwayne Alekhine Sapuan at 4th, and Silliman University's Edrian Torres, a NYSCC finalist, at 5th.

Rounding out the Top 10 are the following: Jhanriom Isaac Paculares at 6th, local bet Brett Pert Catipay at 7th, Dauin's Lee Arzhel Partosa at 8th, Iloilo's Jay Emmanuel Sotaridona at 9th, and NORAA medalist Moira Thea Anhao of Bindoy at 10th.-Marlon Bernardino-
