PhilBoxing.com

TWENTY-ONE year-old Ian Sampan of General Santos City is now the new World Boxing Federation (WBF) International super featherweight champion after he knocked out veteran Jason Tinampay of Bohol in the 6th round last night, December 31 at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

The 21-year-old Sampan first knocked down Tinampay by an uppercut early in the 2nd round.

Tinampay also slipped while he was hit by an uppercut again in the same round.

Sampan kept on losing his mouthpiece in the next three rounds. But Sampan didn't care at all as he kept on hitting Tinampay with head shots and body blows.

In the 6th round, Sampan again landed an uppercut to down Tinampay.

Tinampay stood up again only to be hit by Sampan for good with 51 seconds remaining.

“I was also hurt by his punches,” said Sampan, who now has eight wins with seven knockouts.

The 28-year-old Tinampay suffered his 17th loss against 13 wins and one draw.

Meanwhile, IBF North American super bantamweight champion Mike “Magic” Plania of Gensan stopped Jeffrey "Tsunami" Francisco of Palawan in just 38 seconds of the 1st round in the co-main event.
