Saludar stops Aton in 7 to recapture ABF minimumweight title; Butlig fighters also score wins

CITY of Naga, Cebu, Philippines - Former world champion Vic Saludar recaptured the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) minimumweight title when he stopped little-known Ariston Aton in the 7th round of the main event fight of the Rumble in Naga boxing held Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Enan Chiong Activity Center.

A wild left to the body forced Aton to turn his back kneeling in the neutral corner and refused to beat the mandatory eight count mandated by referee Romar Embodo.

The time of the stoppage was at 2:44 seconds of the 7th. It was the second time around that the Cagayan de Oro fighter went to the canvas. The first was in the fourth round when a solid right straight hit him in the face that put him down. The three judges had Saludar ahead, 60-53, 60-53, and 59-54 when the fight was halted.

In 2019, Saludar won the same title in the same place when he knocked out Mike Kinaadman in the sixth round. But he was stripped of the belt after he failed to defend it for more than two years.

In supporting bouts, three of the four Butlig Promotions protegees scored respective wins in the card presented by the local government of Naga as part of the activities in its forthcoming Dagitab Festival celebration on December 23.

Geroge Sedillo decisioned Dondi Lariosa Jabonillo of Mandaue City while Jason Mopon scored a unanimous decision over Grant Elorza of Butuan City.

Speedy Boy Acobe became the earliest to win by knockout when dethroned Johnrey Lauza of Zamboanga del Sur in just 31 seconds of the first round.

Johnro Taneo was the only Butlig fighter who failed to score a win after his fight with Marlon Alejandro of Cawayan, Negros Occidental ended up with a majority draw. JBM
