Buenos ?Diaz?, David By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Wed, 07 May 2008 Now that his fight with the arguably most exciting and fun to watch fighter already set, it will be more ?buenos dias? (good days) David will wake up to after June 28. While it is his WBC lightweight championship which is at stake, David Diaz looks more of the challenger to Manny Pacquiao. Manny?s WBC 130-lb title is not what David will be fighting for. Fight Manny for ?Manny Pacquiao? The name that is. The reputation Manny Pacquiao has built for Manny Pacquiao makes the lesser named fighters line up to be counted worthy to take a crack at it. Would any of the 130-lb and 135-lb title holders not grab the opportunity when offered to fight the Pacman? For his draw and close split decision loss to Manny, Juan Manuel Marquez is a highly rated as a P4P fighter. He was almost there. A high P4P rating spells high fight purses. For this reason, JMM leaves no stone unturned just to lure Pacquiao to fight him a 3rd time. One writer says that David already holds the linear championship. But despite this fact, David is still not regarded as the man in the lightweight division. A win over Manny Pacquiao would establish David Diaz as a true champion despite the presence of Joel Casamayor and Nate Campbell. David knows that, almost always, opportunity knocks but once. Which is why David has since been devotedly training for this once in a lifetime chance to make a name for himself as Manny Pacquiao made for Manny Pacquiao. David looks to 28 June 2008 as the beginning of ?buenos dias? for David Diaz. Fight Manny for the money David does not hide the financial motivation his fight with Manny will benefit his family?s future. He showed his being a good father of the family when he expressed his concern for his children. He was quoted as saying that his earnings in the June 28 fight the Pacman will pay for his kids? education. This will assure his children?s future. A win, which leads to more lucrative fights, will assure David?s own. Even a loss but with a good competitive showing would still lead to financially ?buenos dias? for David. Manny, don?t make it a bad day for the Filipino fans Manny wants to add the lightweight championship to his 3, some quarters say it is 4, world titles in as many divisions. According to Wikipedia, the WBC has already made Manny a super-champion. While Filipino fight fans appreciate and welcome to the Philippines the good guys outside the ring, they want Manny to beat them inside of it. Just ask Eric Morales and Oscar Larios. Manny assures he will be ready for the June 28 date with David. His delays in preparing for it just annoy and make his fans apprehensive. They want Manny to win and a good preparation is already winning half of it. A loss will darken the bright days winning the 130-lb title brought. Manny should snatch the lightweight championship which twice eluded the great Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde. If he succeeds, it would surely add to the ?buenos dias? of Philippine boxing as well. The Filipino fans look forward to seeing Manny win and to still be able to greet David, ?buenos dias?. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Epifanio M. Almeda. |
