NO HARD FEELINGS, SAYS DENVER CUELLO By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 May 2008 Saying he had no hard feelings after he was informed he could no longer shoot for Ulises ?Archie? Solis? International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightflyweight title as earlier scheduled on May 17 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, RP minimumweight champion Denver Cuello said he will just defend his national crown on June 12 in Binangonan, Rizal. ?I will just use my preparations to fight Solis for the defense of my crown,? Cuello, 21, told Philboxing in Tagalog. Cuello said he was ready to face Solis and was confident of scoring an upset in his first international outing when he was informed by his manager Aljoe Jaro that it will be Glenn Donaire, brother of IBF flyweight king Nonito Jr., who will fight Solis, not him. ?I was ready (for the IBF title fight), but I will continue to prepare because after June 12, who knows I might still be tapped to face Solis,? Cuello added. ?Ok lang dami pa namang pagkakataon baka sa susunod matuloy na. Huwag lang tayo magmadali.? Cuello (13-2, 6 KOs), a southpaw from Cabatuan, Iloilo but trains in Binangonan, Rizal under the tutelage of Jaro, said since winning the RP title on July 7, 2007 via 12-round decision over veteran Armand Dela Cruz and defending it three times (two draws and one TKO), his townmantes started to shower him with accoldaes and praises like a superstar. He was paraded in a motorcade in the whole municipality like a hero. During a recent two week vacation, he was commended by the Cabatuan municipal government headed Mayor Ramon Yee and was cited by Iloilo Gov. Niel D. Tupas in a meeting at the provincial capitol. In Cuello?s recent title defense in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, he was held to a technical draw by his former victim Dela Cruz in the thrid round. ?Pangarap ko talaga maging world champion gaya ni (Manny) Pacquiao,? said the diminutive Cuello.
