Morris East Helps Train Young, Very Promising FilAm Boxers By Teodoro Medina Reynoso PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Oct 2021 Former world champion and currently Las Vegas based boxing manager and trainer-consultant Morris East stands between twin brothers Angel and Chavez Barrientes who are among the most promising young boxing prospects in the US today. At left is their father trainer Richard Barrientes who is also an owner of the Pound 4 Pound Gym in Las Vegas and the Pound 4 Pound Promotions. The elder Barrientes is Hispanic and his wife is a Filipina and the twins were born in Hawaii before the family moved to Continental USA. the other kid in photo is another young up and comer named Demler Zamora III who is also of mixed heritage as his dad, Demler Zamora is Filipino and his mom is African-American. "I feel so excited to work with these future FilAm hopefuls as these kids have a lot of amateur fights and are very aggressive and determined and I feel their diligence is bringing me back to my younger self," Morris said. The Barrientes twins are both staggering 5-foot-11 junior featherweights with extensive amateur backgrounds. They’re both 2-0, with two knockouts. Chavez, who is older by 13 minutes, and named after the great Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr is known as “The Beast,” while Angel is known as “AK-47.” They turned 18 on August 3 and will be featured on future PBC undercards. Earlier Morris and LA Entrepreneur Michael Schiavone donated new boxing gloves and mouthpieces to help improve the training of aspiring young Filipino and FilAm professional boxers. Far from his land of birth since deciding to settle in the USA after being reunited with his then ailing former serviceman father in the early 90s, Morris has always aimed to give back to Philippine boxing by constantly helping Filipino boxers aspiring to break into the US fight scene. And now even FilAm fighters eager to make it big in the States. He said he and multi division and current WBC bantamweight world champion Nonito Donaire are planning a tie up to help further develop Philippine boxing He is currently legal manager of reigning WBO bantamweight champion Johnriel Casimero until the end of their global management contract early 2022.
