POVETKIN-WHYTE REMATCH LANDS ON MARCH 6 PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Jan 2021  ‘The Body Snatcher’ targets knockout revenge Dillian Whyte’s highly anticipated rematch with Alexander Povetkin has been set for Saturday March 6 at a venue to be confirmed, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN in all other markets excluding the UK and Ireland, Whyte (27-2, 18 KOs) was sensationally knocked out by Povetkin (36-2-1, 25 KOs) as the Russian viciously halted ‘The Body Snatcher’s’ World Title ambitions in the finale of Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood, Essex, in August. Brixton’s Whyte had completely controlled the fight, flooring his opponent twice in the fourth round, but was smashed by a perfect left uppercut 30 seconds into the fifth that ended his hopes in a flash. The pair were due to meet on November 21 – just two months after their first fight – before Povetkin returned a positive COVID-19 test and was forced to pull out, but Whyte now has a chance to exact revenge and get his World Title hunt back on track in March. “Dillian Whyte is a strong and worthy opponent,” said Povetkin. “In revenge I will try to box well and beautifully. I have already started to prepare for the battle. I know that I need to change my tactics in order to correct some mistakes. See you in the ring!” “I’ve got to make some small and minor adjustments, be a bit more switched on and defensively tighter,” said Whyte. “I want to knock him out! I want to give him a really aggressive thrashing. I’m going to approach this fight in a whole different manner. I want to beat the guy up.” Povetkin’s promoter Andrei Ryabinsky said: “We are happy that we can announce the new date for the rematch against Dillan Whyte. Alexander has fully recovered and started his training camp on January 12. He is progressing well in the first stage of his preparation. We hope that the second fight will live up to everyone’s expectations and that Povetkin will deliver another spectacular finish.” Also on the card, Bermondsey’s Ted Cheeseman (16-2-1, 9 KOs) meets Liverpool’s James Metcalf (21-0, 13 KOs) for the vacant British Super-Welterweight Title, Ipswich Heavyweight talent Fabio Wardley (10-0, 9 KOs) steps-up again against USA’s former World Title challenger Eric Molina (27-6, 19 KOs), Manchester Super-Featherweight Campbell Hatton – son of British fight legend Ricky Hatton – makes his professional debut and Wembley Super-Featherweight Youssef Khoumari ( 11-0-1, 4 KOs) faces Birmingham’s Kane Baker (14-7).  |
