Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC, has been recognized as the winner of the 2020 National Sports Award, in the category of 'Promotion, Protection and Impulse' within the celebration of 45 years of the National Sports Award (PND) in a vote of the Qualifying jury for the designation of the award winners in its 2020 edition, which was held at the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE).

Another winner was MLB legend Fernando ‘El Toro’ Valenzuela, winner for ‘Outstanding Career’.

Sulaimán Saldívar was proposed by the Associations of Mexican Olympians and Olympic Medalists of Mexico for all his constant support since his arrival to the presidency of the WBC in 2014 where he has implemented different programs that have joined the Mexican society and among them ¨Deportes Unidos por México¨, ¨Sumamos por México¨, ¨Héroes por la Humanidad¨ and the support that the WBC has given to boxers, athletes and people from the communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sulaimán joined the Mexican health authorities and promoted the creation of health protocols for the performance of boxing functions, under strict health security measures and shared it with all the participating countries of the WBC.

Mauricio will join his father Don José Sulaimán posthumously received the National Sports Award in 2015, also in this same category, since since 1975 in front of the WBC he was the promoter of the greatest changes in boxing for the benefit of the protection and life of the boxer inside and outside the ring. Don José Sulaimán managed to take boxing to the top of world sport and is considered the father of contemporary boxing.

The Award is a diploma signed by the President of Mexico along with a pure gold medal, a rosette and an economic stimulus of about 40 thousand dollars. The Award will be presented on November 20 by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace in commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
