CASIMERO DESTROYS TETE IN THREE; CALLS OUT INOUE

PhilBoxing.com

Johnriel 'Quadro Alas' Casimero stunned the Birmingham crowd when he dropped title favorite and defending champion Zolani Tete twice en route to a third round TKO victory Saturday night (early Sunday morning in Manila) at the Arena Birmingham in the United Kingdom to capture the full WBO world bantamweight title and made history again by becoming a three-division world champion.

Tete (28-4-0, 21KOs) who at 5'9" was five inches taller than Casimero was cautious in the opening rounds and was trying to use his height and reach advantage to catch Casimero coming in. Casimero (29-4-0, 20KOs) meanwhile was sizing up Tete's moves as he was trying to establish the distance for his head and body attacks as the the two rounds were completed with very minimal action.

Then in early in the third Casimero suddenly caught Tete with a right to the head and followed it up with a couple of rights sending the former two-division world champion to the canvas badly hurt. As Tete beat the count with unsteady legs, Casimero went in for the kill and sent Tete again to the canvas with a barrage of punches to the head and body. Although Tete beat the count in the second knockdown, it was clear he would not be able to finish the round as there was still plenty of time left. After another barrage of punishment, Referee Steve Gray came in to stop the contest as Casimero ran to his corner to celebrate.

"I worked very hard in Las Vegas for this fight," Casimero told Skysports after the fight. "My opponents are very good, they are the favorites. I am not good but I always beat them."

"Come on Inoue, let's fight," Casimero said as he now aims his arrow towards the monster who everyone considers as the top dog in the division and a top pound for pound fighter in the planet.

This was Casimero's second victory in England, the first one was against then up and coming Charlie Edwards whom he stopped in the 10th round as he defended his IBF world flyweight title.

Casimero won the Interim WBO world title last April against Ricardo Espinoza and defended it once against Cesar Ramirez last August and has now become the full fledged WBO champion by dethroning Tete and has joined countrymen Manny Pacquiao, Jerwin Ancajas and Pedro Taduran as the country's current champions.

Casimero also joined Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire Jnr and Donnie Nietes as the country's three division world champions.
