NBA Daily: Lakers Rally from 16 Points Down to Beat Pelicans 114-110 in Davis’ Return to New Orleans

PhilBoxing.com

Tagbilaran City, Bohol – In his first game versus the team that drafted him first overall several years back, six-time All Star Anthony Davis shrugged off incessant boos from his former fans to finish with game high 41 points and help rally the Los Angeles Lakers past the Pelicans on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time) at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He also had 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 3 steals, including the huge interception of Jrue Holiday’s inbound pass with 5 seconds left in the ballgame. He was then immediately fouled and secured the victory with a pair of freethrows.

LeBron James made 15 of his 29 points in the final period, while Kyle Kuzma added 9 of his 16 markers in that huge 4th quarter rally, to keep the Lakers’ streak alive and stretching it to 9 straight. They now sit on top of the team standings with a 16-2 win-loss card.

Jrue Holiday topscored for New Orleans with 29, to go along with 6 boards, 12 dimes, and 3 steals. He, however, committed 7 turnovers, including that crucial one forced by his former teammate in the dying seconds of the contest. Brandon Ingram had a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds against his former team.

The Pelicans, who dropped to 6 wins and 12 losses, will travel to Oklahoma City on Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time) to face the Thunder.

Meanwhile, the Lakers will return home to host the Washington Wizards on the same date.
