Waminal beats Siwach to retain GBO Asia Pacific featherweight title

PhilBoxing.com

DAVAO CITY -- Orthodox Jess Rhey "Wanman" Waminal of Bukidnon beat Indian southpaw Sunil Siwach by a convincing unanimous decision to retain his Global Boxing Organization Asia Pacific featherweight title last Saturday night at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.

Waminal almost knocked out Siwach in the 12th round despite suffering a cut on his right eye but time had expired already.
Waminal knocked down Siwach with a left-right combination in the dying minutes near his corner.

The fight, however, started differently with Siwach making the more aggressive moves in the 1st round.

But in the 2nd round, Waminal started to go near Siwach to fight him and hit him with his body punches.

And every time Siwach throw his punches, Waminal has countered with more on the Indian champion.

In the 11th round, Siwach was already exhausted and was ready to go down but was save by the bell.

It was the 14th win by Waminal against the third loss and one draw while Siwach lost for the first time against five wins and one draw.

"Kusog pud ang komu sa kalaban pero mas daghan ako (His punches were also strong but mine was many)," said the 24-year old Waminal.

Siwach, on the other hand, said: "I got tired because he had more many punches."

Waminal received a golden belt from Davao del Norte Gov. Kuya Edwin Jubahid who was assisted by promoter Rey Rodis.

Meanwhile, almost all the other bouts were also ended in a close fight.

Undefeated featherweight Richard Bulacan of Davao del Norte forced Anthony Sabalde of Cebu to retire after the 5th round after absorbing countless punches.

The other bouts featuring boxers from the MP Stable from Digos also won - Jestine Tesoro beat Romnick Magos of Cebu by unanimous decision; Alvin Camigue won by a UD over Wesly Caga of Cagayan de Oro; John Paul Tabanao won over Maico Fernandez by Cebu.
