Former WBA champ Randy Petalcorin back in action October 19th in Manila PhilBoxing.com Wed, 02 Oct 2019 Petalcorin. Former Interim WBA world champion and current light flyweight IBF #9 and WBA #11 Randy Petalcorin returns to the ring on October 19th versus Wichet Sengprakhon of Thailand on a ESPN5 televised card in Manila, Peter Maniatis, Petalcorin's co-manager has informed PhilBoxing. The October 19th event will be promoted by Sanman Promotions of JC Manangquil. Petalcorin is being sponsored by Ultratune Service Center in Australia whose executive chairman Sean Buckley is an avid combat sports supporter. Petalcorin (33-3-1, 23KOs) lost to Felix Alvarado of Nicaragua for the vacant IBF light flyweight title October last year but came back in the win column when he stopped Worawatchai Boonjan of Thailand in the third round last June. Sengprakhon (9-6-0, 4KOs) lost a string of six fights the last two years but won by knockout in his last outing against compatriot Gerttipong Kumsahwat on June 22 in Bangkok. Petalcorin, according to Maniatis, has been training very hard in preparation for this month's fight including being the sparring partner of Japanese WBO world champion Kosei Tanaka. "Petalcorin is 27 years old and at his peak. We are keeping him active now while we wait for a big fight as Randy is world rated with the IBF & WBA," Maniatis said. "The world title loss last year to Felix Alvarado has made Petalcorin train harder and hungry and more mature. We would like a rematch or fight for a WBA world title soon," Maniatis said. Petalcorin, on the other hand, said, "On October 19 you will see my improvements. I have trained hard and will not disappoint my team. I am ready for action and I would like to thank Sir Sean Buckley and my team for supporting my career." |
