GANOY OUT FOR REVENGE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 28 Nov 2007 IBF Pan Pacific lightweight champion Ranee ?KO Kid? Ganoy is out for revenge when he battles Thailand?s Somchai Nakbalee at the Kedron Wavell Services Club in Brisbane, Australia tomorrow. Ganoy, the only Filipino boxer who has won the respect of Australian fight fans with his aggressive style lost a six round decision to Nakbalee on June 9, 2004 and is out to avenge that defeat. The hard-hitting 27 year old Ganoy has won six straight fights after suffering a seventh round TKO at the hands of Michael Katsidis on August 19, 2005 after taking the fight on short notice and without sufficient training. But since then the popular lightweight has looked impressive with big wins over former Commonwealth champion Fatai Onikeke and former world title challenger Robbie Peden. Ganoy hammered Onikeke into submission in seven rounds on September 15, 2006 after dropping Onikeke twice in round two and once in round seven in a brawl. He knocked out Peden in the eighth round to win the vacant IBF Pan Pacific lightweight title on March 9 this year and successfully defended it against Indonesia?s tough Joey De Ricardo with a twelve round unanimous decision on June 8. Ganoy wrapped up sparring with IBF Pan Pacific junior middleweight champion Ryan Waters two days ago. The Filipino from South Cotabato goes into the fight with a record of 23-10-2 with 19 knockouts while Nakbalee has a record of 10-3-1 with 3 knockouts. There are many who believe Ganoy, if properly trained, has the punching power to become a world champion since he hits hard with either hand. One of those who shares the view that Ganoy is a future world champion is Australia?s IBF representative Ray Wheatley. Ganoy is handled by Dido Bohol of Cebu who migrated to Australia some ten years ago and maintains a stable of Filipino boxers in Sydney who, unfortunately, are often forced to accept mismatches against heavier and better opponents.
