A WIN IS A WIN BY BOBBY EVEN IF BY FOE?S INJURY

PhilBoxing.com

Bobby ?The Sniper? Pacquiao scored a controversial victory over the bigger and taller Mexican opponent Fernando ?El Pillo? Trejo at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in California on Saturday. Trejo suffered an arm injury in the 4th round, forcing referee Tony Crebs to stop the bout at 1:14 of the 4th round. The 33-year-old Trejo apparently broke his arm in that round.

The victory was not convincing enough that boxing critics labeled it as simply a triumph due to the injury of the Mexican foe. It was a bad twist of fortune for Trejo, who was scoring stridently on the 26-year-old Pacquiao. Bobby threw his punches mostly on the Mexican's body, who retaliated by powerful head shots. Pacquiao's unyielding body blows ultimately harmed Trejo.

The injury came when Trejo caught a wayward left hand on his right forearm in the 4th round while aiming to throw a right punch on Pacquiao. Trejo grasped his right arm grimacing in pain as Pacquiao stroke him with a left to the chin.

Trejo dropped to his knees but got up immediately, walking to his corner to inform his seconds of the injury. The referee was left with no choice but to signal the end of the action.

Pacquiao received telling blows to the head and face, causing blood to run in his right cheek, but still managed to drop Trejo with a one-two combination to the head and body.
Trejo still got up but was unable to finish the fight.

The referee imposed a mandatory 10-count, and when he was unable to continue, declared the end of the fight resulting in the TKO. Trejo?s injury, however, apparently saved Bobby from another loss in his professional career. Bobby hopes this victory could perk up his descending professional boxing career.

The injury stoppage was the first time Trejo suffered a KO loss. Bobby was coming off from dismal back-to-back losses to Mexicans Hector Velazquez and Humberto Soto.

Bobby's victory was sweet even without the presence of his regular coach Freddie Roach and his brother Manny, who had prior commitments. A win is a win and getting injured is caused by a flaw in the boxer who got hurt.

In all angles, it was recorded as a younger Pacquiao?s win by TKO. Bobby has a lot of rooms for improvement though as he is often compared to his more glamorous older brother. Bobby?s record improved to 28 wins, 13 losses, 3 draws, 13 wins by KO. Trejo decreased to 30 wins, 13 losses, with 12 wins by KO.
