Undefeated Mario Barrios of San Antonio, Texas stopped Jose Roman of Garden Grove, CA in the 8th round to capture the vacant WBA Inter-Continental welterweight title on the undercard of the Mikey Garcia vs Robert Easter Jr lightweight unification bout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Saturday night. Roman's corner motioned to referee Gerald White to stop the fight after the eighth round. Barrios improves to 22-0 with 14 KOs while Roman dropped to 24-3-1, 16KOs.
