PhilBoxing.com

Singapore ? Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fans witnessed world-class action at UFC? FIGHT NIGHT SINGAPORE: COWBOY VS EDWARDS presented by AirAsia, as Leon 'Rocky' Edwards made his six consecutive victories in the UFC after a (48-47) unanimous decision victory over Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in a pulsating main event. The Englishman's triumph denied Cerrone his 21st win, and all-time record for most number of UFC victories.

Sharing his thoughts post-fight, Edwards said, "After the fight, I told him (Cerrone) I respected him and he's a legend of the game. I give myself 7 out of 10 and my aim is to bring UFC back to my hometown, Birmingham."

"Winning and losing is part of this game," said Cerrone. "Congratulations to him (Leon). I love every minute of the sport and I'm still looking to fight two more times this year - I got a smile on my face more than you can imagine."

In the co-main event, No. 7-ranked light heavyweight Ovince Saint Preux got back to his winning ways as he prevailed over up-and-coming Australian star Tyson Pedro with a Round 1 straight armbar submission.

In the other main card bouts, No. 10-ranked Jessica ?Evil? Eye remains undefeated at flyweight, making it two wins in a row with a unanimous decision victory over Jessica-Rose Clark. China's biggest MMA star and crowd favourite Li ?The Leech? Jingliang made it with two consecutive wins in Singapore as he triumphed over Daichi Abe by unanimous decision.

Flying the Chinese flag, Song Yadong finished Felipe ?Sertanejo? Arantes, with a second round KO, while bantamweight debutant Song ?The Assassin? Kenan and Yan Xiaonan both notched their second consecutive UFC wins, emerging victorious over H?ctor Aldana and Viviane ?Sucuri? Pereira De Oliveira respectively.

"The crowd really was amazing tonight, and really supported us despite it being a busy (sports) week.? said Kevin Chang, UFC Vice President, Asia Pacific. "Our Asian talent really represented us tonight, it was really impressive performances and just a sign of how far we've come in Singapore and in Asia."

Saint Preux and Song Yadong were awarded Performance of the Night Bonuses for their victories, while Fight of the Night Bonuses went to Shane 'Sugar' Young and Rolando ?The Incredible? DY. The event was attended by 6,419 fans. UFC? FIGHT NIGHT SINGAPORE: COWBOY VS EDWARDS presented by AirAsia is the first event of a multi-year live event agreement for the world's premier MMA organization in Asia. MMA fans in Singapore can look forward to two more action-packed cards in the coming years.
